Jesus on a s**t stick. I just realised, KVR is where old bass players go to die.
Sorry for giving the game away so soon.

EADG for ever.

Once you got your gits, check out Martin V's Pitch xtractor audio to midi, it can do bass and droptuned bass.
Not payware quality, but you'll eat it.

Thanks for the TalkBass forums tip, I'd found them, but haven't registered yet.
Ok, an RB170 turned up on craigslist and I figure right now that the most important thing for me is daily practice to build muscle memory and get to that relaxed state that only comes from physical practice.
What youtube "tutorial" videos do you really like? What kinds of daily exercises do you recommend? By exercise, I don't necessarily mean some formal thing, maybe the right thing to do is to just play through particular songs, I don't know, that's why I'm asking.
Also, what songs are really fun or more helpful than you would have expected on a first listen?
tnx

It seems that I might have made a serious mistake...From Reddit:

This thread makes as much sense Willie Weeks does to a shredders convention.
Note: The ibby bass you mentioned is indeed a reasonable "in" for a beginner. I don't know what area you live in, but another option is the http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ ... QgodwREAbQ
Which is fairly cheap, has that "classic" bass sound, and with a bit of TLC could be ideal.
I have a "cool vibe" jazz bass (couldn't find a link) from squire but I paid less ( like about 250???) and it's not bad, especially for the coin. Not sure if 380 is worth it, but wanted to throw that out. I've played a bass or two in my time.

Well, this may only be tangentially related, but I think you end up learning an instrument as far as how much music you can pull from your head to your instrument.
I think that kinds of explains why so many guitar players don't progress and why people who pick up bass never even start.
Anyway, I am looking for a cheap fretless. Not sure if I want to buy an upright at this moment -- not that there's anything at all at such price range anyway.

It's all about the wavelets. I dream of the perfect additive synthesis.

I'm just gonna repeat my recommendation for the SX Ursa fretless then. Surprisingly good instrument for $120.

Indeed. This works!
They also release 3 new songs every 1-2 weeks on tuesdays (for pay). So it stays pretty fresh.

Regarding the SX fretless, do you know the build quality difference between these two?

Or should I play it safe and get something like Squire fretless?

Could be. I stopped progressing on the guitar when I stopped playing in bands, that is, I stopped learning covers. By that point I'd switched gears, but still, it does mark a point in time for me.schnapsglas wrote:Well, this may only be tangentially related, but I think you end up learning an instrument as far as how much music you can pull from your head to your instrument.

i would really LOVE to pick up one of these eventually. can't justify it now though:schnapsglas wrote: Anyway, I am looking for a cheap fretless. Not sure if I want to buy an upright at this moment -- not that there's anything at all at such price range anyway.
they're about $250 new, little more expensive than that sx, but bonus, they actually fit in the overhead bin, or behind the seat in your car, or whatever.
