Hi Ableton Live 9 users,

How would you rate Live 9 on a (1 to 10 scale) 10 being Awesome ?

Thanks,

User since Live 4. Unfortunately I would rate low.

I would give it 2 out of 10 as it works worse that 8.

*SLOW load times & Unresponsive behaviour where live appears to have loaded the set but beach balls.
*Launchpad not recognized on start up
*Browser is pointless - Indexing for me is pointless

Positives are session automation, glue compressor and EQ8 is improved.
In Max I like the spring reverbs.

I have 4 launchpads plus other bits and all are recognised (Win XP), loading is slow I agree.
I like it overall. Browser doesn't bother me. Other than load times, no other complaints.

i'd give it a 5 for a core2duo.
a 7 for working on an i5.

Probably a 5, but thats also coming from a previous user. If you hadnt used live at all before 9 then probably higher

The new things, automation, effect changes, audio to midi, midi editing (i like the new style) are positives for me.

Negatives are for me, by far the browser, slow, pointless, and a huge step backwards in terms of usability. Also PDC still not being addressed. Another negative for me is just how they responded during their open beta. Probably the top 3 concerns were never even touched. They still arent addressed when people bring them up on the user forums. Other very valid issues were brought up with barely any response or none at all from ableton.

They just need to get over their fear of user options. Give the user a choice, if they can figure out music production software they arent a tard and can figure out a few options to check.

Again though, thats coming from a previous user. Had I come into with no expectations, the new features are great and it does still have the same workflow

minus: it loads slowly, gets out of sync, sometimes i have to restart to stop latency which occurs e.g.when Kontakt 4 and Kore 2 are in one project or Ace and Kore 2. Sampletron crash bug not solved after several years.

plus: new features, far less crashes than with 8.

6 points and some annoyance

A 5, but I'd have given 8 an 8.

Live user since 5. I'd give it a 7. Fix PDC for once and for all and improve MIDI editing and I'd rate higher.

it includes all things advertised, I haven't come across many bugs. I am still trying the browser, I found it good but it goes against user created content. Needs improvement.

CPU use is high also, but well this gets irrelevant as CPU get faster.

I am not affected much by PDC since I dont use thrid party fx.

I would give it 7.5.

1. Browser - such a drastic alteration in the 9th iteration for what seems to be purely to support a piece of hardware that is then unavailable for 4 months after a customer orders is beyond idiotic.

2. PDC - still a shambles

3. Rewire - trashed in first release, now (supposedly) working

4. M4L - 64 bit same as 3. Now they've removed support for Max 6 in V8 - which previously worked and is obviously designed to force an upgrade.

5. Pointlessly upgrading point releases to include surveys that ignore the current key failings of the software. Presumably so the results can also be ignored.

Overall I'd give it a 4 - the version I started on - except it's getting a 3 because the company are acting more and more like Steinborg in the late '90's and, simply put, taking the piss out of users by releasing substandard demos for the sake of a cash injection.

Interesting feedback so far !

I'm not a Live user. I thought getting some direct feedback from Live 9 users would be a good thing, and to make it simple. I used the (1 to 10) rating to make it simple, and easy to get an overall picture of the degree of satisfaction Live 9 users are experiencing.

If I'm not wrong, I remember many Live 8 users complaining about it, and hoping to see a lot of improvements in Live 9, so it is surprising that users ratings here seem to indicate their dissatisfaction with Live 9.

Is the consensus here that Live 8 was better than Live 9 ? Kind of odd this would be the case, given all the time Ableton has spent working on Live 9.

Oh.. well, let's keep those user ratings coming in !

Thanks for your contributions to this post.

Cheers,

I wouldnt. I like their reviews to give me a good overall view of what a piece of software or hardware does, but I would never ever trust them to tell how well something actually works in every day use. They probably play with something for at most a week, then give an overall review.

So far I like it a lot more than 8 - mainly because I have less crashes! If I had to give it a number I'd say a 7/10? Most of the new stuff is not that much of a step forward but the stability has improved and Max 6 is so much friendlier to use I find than 5, so for me it's an improvement overall...

Hi, Live user since V.6
I, for the most part like it very much, I really like the over-all structure of the new browser *BUT* the indexing is a massive stinker, this "background" process has hung on me a few times, forcing me to 3 finger salute the entire app.
I'm not as much a stickler for some of the more long standing complaints i.e. PDC etc...
I'm still sussing out some of the new "convenience" functionality but over-all quite pleased.
8 out of 10.
