You're making a big argument out of nothing (maybe Mods will spilt this derail off).
Anyway i'm going for the pre order.. 10 euros is a nice $14 which is a meal here, and i already KNOW i want it.

Considering $14 is 1/20th of my wage, i'll take the saving.

It's not any sort of precedent anyway.. Wusik did this forever months before each new version and it was a small ish saving compared to the final price..
Glad you like it Theo :)

yes some people prefer, when possible, dongles, Fernando. Ease of use, good resale value in case of ..., easy to migrate, easy to install.

Of course, some other like them less, and they have their good reasons too.

Then some people just dont care and have synths with various protection schemes.

If you don't use a laptop then there is lot's less to be concerned about ( safe and sound behind a tower in the studio ; and a y adapter can keep it vertical instead of sticking out horizontally )

Some of us fear C/R more because the authorization servers can and have gone poof :x

So far I've only found two developers whos products made cave in to the dongle and I'm glad I did ( Virsyn and Xils).

That doesn't mean that I don't treasure and will continue to support and try to steer all my patronage twoards companies who use the most customer friendly S/N method .

It just means those two have something special I couldn't resist despite my upmost efforts !!

And some people refuse to buy any software that requires a dongle.

Maybe just ask L if putting the thread out of it's misery wouldn't be more prudent . He can always start another in a few weeks and stippulate right from the start that's it's Dongled so deal with it .

The whole pre-release drama will be mute then too.

Apologies to the O.P. ; such is the the :clown: circus :clown: of KVR ; Opinions appear to vary!!! :ud:

TheoM wrote:I do have a question for my friend Laurent - i see the vocoder is only 10 bands.. because of this i decided i may wait and do the demo first but i am not sure.. i will trust what you say.. i have never really thought a 10 band vocoder could do intelligible speech.. i always thought the more the bands the easier to understand the words would be. In fact in my own testing in Logic, Reason and Live with their own vocoders, upping the bands ALWAYS improves things where clarity is the focus and desire. Is this still a problem with this gorgeous looking new Xils product? The vocoder is an important part of the purchase for me, cause i still don't really have a vocoder that sounds good with it's own TOP in built synth and i am tried of sidechaining  Predator's vocoder for example is not very intelligible and i thought that would have been the answer as it's a great synth, but alas no. Do you feel Xils V+ overcomes this barrier?
I'll let Laurent answer, but my $.02 is that the original VP-330, which this is obviously modeled after, from the records I've heard it on it is certainly not a "clear" vocoder. Maybe it can sound more clear, but to me it's all about character. And to many the original has the best character of any vocoder ever made.

I gotta admit, having been "dongle-less" (not for religious regions, but because I do use a laptop and travel), it's the Xils gear that has me close to giving in (I suspect a sale on PolyKB or Synthix would tip the scales - :hihi: - maybe a "Don't Fear the Dongle" sale, as inspired by @contrary...)

I just had the pleasure of having my motherboard replaced on my Mac, making it in effect a new machine, which some CP schemes are not happy with. The buddies at Nomad have still not replied in over a week to a request to solve some license files issues (I'm not quick to slam a dev but I've posted concerning this already, so it's no gossip). Point being nothing's bullet proof. I'm more concerned that dongles are finding less industry support, and still do not have a cloud backup (a cloud license repository would be a boon - the zero-downtime stuff still does not protect you if you cannot re-acquire a permanent license).

Of course, given Adobe's recent move, the day may be coming when we own nothing in our box. Expect to see more hardware!

Sorry to continue this hijack - just trying to provide flame-and-cat-less constructive feedback - licensing/ownership is an important part of a product's utility.

Outside of that, I'm impressed (as usual) by this synth. And you know, if anyone could pull off a decent CS80, it might be the Xavier crew...
