No they don't. Only if you raise the volume to clip the audio completely.Jedinhopy wrote:Distortion creates new harmonics. And those harmonics makes pops/clicks.
Why do i get pops/clicks on most sample libraries?

I do:DJedinhopy wrote:So people make music full of pops/clicks?
As for your problem I think about two things :
Maybe you don't use a master limiter and you are mixing at high levels ? Just clipping then is what is making the bad distortion you are hearing ? Or maybe you are tracking with too high level and thus clipping your fx plugins for instance ? I think the waves plugs are very sensible to clipping, what are you using ?
Or maybe you can edit the part of the samples playing ? And if your program doesn't provide zero-crossing snap, the clicks you hear are simply the waveforms not starting/stopping at 0 amplitude. Same if there is a loop inside your samples, if the loop doesn't start/stop on 0 amplitude sample you have instant clicks.
Just some thoughts.

no, it's pretty much you... hard to tell why I think because you fill your posts with nonsense that creates red herrings for people.Jedinhopy wrote:So people make music full of pops/clicks?
-> if you are messing with envelopes and you don't understand it, that would create this kind of problem. but then you want to talk about harmonic distortion. overall we get the impression you have too much information absent real understanding of it.
chances are vanishingly small that every one of these EWQL or what-have-you products consistently has such errors in the samples. this is all you I'm afraid.

I never said it was the best way to do it. I was only comparing performance. I can run many instances of Kontakt and/or Engine without a problem just running off my internal partitioned drive. I'm fine with that until I have the need and the money for some external dedicated drives. It's something I will invest in down the line. When I was on a holiday last year, I was running Kontakt (factory library) off the hard drive of a 6 year old Core 2 Duo laptop with a practically full hard drive.EvilDragon wrote:Partitioning is THE WORST thing you can do for your streaming performance. Why? Because each new partition on the same physical drive is SLOWER than preceding one.Shangsean wrote:I'm sure Play runs fine for some, but the OP's problem is why I'm not willing to invest in Play. I run Kontakt and Engine libraries just fine off my partitioned internal harddrive. It's just a standard 7200 drive with my OS on C and samples (and a bunch of other crap) on D and E partitions. Judging by most reports about Play, it seems what Evil Dragon is saying is basically what you need to do.
Definitely get a separate hard drive for just sample libraries to maximize streaming efficiency. It totally helps! I have 5 disks (1 for OS and programs, 3 for sample libraries, 1 for DAW projects and work-in-progress stuff).

Well that's too much.

Yep. So why not get a better audio interface?

No, a REAL audio interface, none of that gamer crap. Something more professional like Presonus, TC Electronic, Focusrite, etc. You know, external audio interfaces.
Or at least try ASIO4ALL instead of crappy Creative Labs ASIO. Or WASAPI if available in your audio output properties.
