Yeah I bit the bullet and upgraded to R7 today. I'm really digging it. I'm currently working on this master song template from this video:

Reason with a great controller (I have the Nektar Panorama P6) is a great way to work.

Are they still trying to exert control over RE devs? Are they still trying to lock users into Reason via a no transfer policy on RE plugins? Did they address plugin delay compensaton?

I'm guessing that there have been no changes to any of the above.

Post

Yes, yes, no.

And I still love it anyway.

IIRC there will be a RE soon which is capable of doing manual sample-acurate delay compensation.

A question about the Ignition Key:

As I understand Reason 7 doesn't require an Ignition Key to run, but does that mean it is "dongle free", or that eLicenser/iLok is used instead of ignition key?

Post

I think its their own version of elicenser. Im on 6.5 right now, and its dongle free solution is that you have to login every time, but I think that still runs via the codemeter/dongle software. In 7 I believe they changed it so that your pc can act as the dongle, so you can store your license in an ignition key, balance, or a single PC.

So that means on that one pc you wont have to login to use the internet activation, but you will on any other pc you want to use it with.

Post

Ignition key (WIBU dongle) still can be used to authorize it, it's just that Props added offline authorization as an additional method of authorization.

OK, that means you will have to be online on that other PC to be able to login to Reason then?

Post

yes, this is just what Ive picked up from perusing the forums

Heres the thread, and I think somewhere in there is an official response from a rep that explains it all:

You can authorize/de-auth as many times as you want, but if you reformat without doing a de-auth then they allow you one chance on your own to remove the auth. Then after that you have to contact them if it happens again.
The only change with 7 was that they allow your computer to act as a giant dongle. So if you have an ignition key or a balance then you can have the same authorization on those as well.

So for example you could have a laptop with the pc auth, then use an ignition on a desktop, and never need to use the internet login

Not even that. There is offline authorization for computers that aren't connected to Internet. Which is awesome they added.

Right, but its only one, not multiple, which is what I meant by you having to to be online with the other pc
