For me it's enough what's inside Sonar 8.x.

I have an old Finale Guitar, which was a low price(I would say decent priced), but it's not supported anymore and discontiued since many years.

I use it mainly for getting melody, chords and lyrics to register songs - almost nothing else - well I did a printout for a vocalist to prepare for her job, aprt from a rough mix.

Myriad's "Harmony Assistant". Quite a powerful soft at a low cost, having a lot of nifty features (which I keep discovering now and then). I find it easier to use and more efficient for my workflow than any other notation program.
On the other hand, I'm not really the kind of guy who composes on the score

I haven't really used notation in creating music on a computer, nothing I've kept. If I had an idea I had to notate at once, I would go for pencil on whatever paper was around. Haven't done since late 05.

I have for teaching purposes, four-part writing primarily and found MuseScore to be sufficient. It's free. I haven't upgraded Finale since Finale 2006 I think.

"my DAW's notation/score editor" should be an option. I'd be willing to be that that's what the majority of the "other" responses are.

My main notation software is Finale, but you left out two good alternatives: Overture and Encore (yes, these two still exist). Another remarkable software that deserves mention, this time exclusively for Macintosh is NoteAbility Pro

I use Notion. It has a nice blend of good features, simplicity, and VST support. At times, it can lack some basic features (like cross staff beaming), but overall it made the most sense for me. It's one of those programs where I feel like it's just one or two good updates away from being perfect.
