I actually like Chris Jones idea:
This little track emerged during some Zebra2 sound design sessions in Cubase. Synthesized using Zebra2; Poulin LeGion, FreeAmp and the Cubase Amp Simulator for guitar distortion; CamelCrusher to make it sound angrier; and some limiting and eq to stop it blowing your head off

So far the only thing that sounds remotely close to a real guitar's sound is IMO Rob Papen's RG. Slayer's presets are horrid and they tend to get lost in the mix - it needs a lot of fiddling to make it work...
FTM there are still not many options for creating guitar loops from scratch that sound like an actual distorted guitar.

Shreddage2 is a really strong option.

Just check out some of the top demos. It sounds really, really good for rock/metal stuff and it's only going to get better with our upcoming free 1.1 update.

Omnisphere's Martin through Guitar rig sounds so much better than my actual neck-miced/piezo pickup Takamine electroacoustic that I've stopped recording with it and merely use it for note orders.
For Electric, I use the Telecaster - or just run AAS String Studio through Guitar Rig for less hum.
For realistic guitars, it's not so much the sound as knowing how a guitarist plays, no quantise for that picked string feel, knowing when to let off a note to allow another note on the same string to sound. Orange tree guitars has powerful scripting to do just that for you, though.

Zircon, What is in the1.1 update?
danbroad, I've had trouble using string studio and gs-1 through
amp sims.I turn all efx off and still get either a clunk or a weird
harmonic when releasing the key.I've tried changing the various parameters.
idfpower, electri6ity, Vmetal, and shreddage2 come with the kontakt player.

Yeah, I got that, it's just that I don't stomach well anything Kontakt (even remotely) relatedbill45 wrote:idfpower, electri6ity, Vmetal, and shreddage2 come with the kontakt player.
