Some of it is new, but yeah, most of it is old Cubase effects, and the worst part is that they are a lot harder to use with the reduced "strip" GUIs than they are just using the regular plugin versions.

I would have to agree with you, for the most part. While I do like most of the mixer's upgrade from 6 to 7, I never even open the strip sections, because it is really poorly implemented. I would rather just use individual plugins (or, really, something like Alloy 2 makes a much better "all-purpose strip" than the mixer's channels do). They take up insane amount of vertical screen real estate, the controls are much harder to use than plugin versions, and the scalable GUI makes for very weird results if you keep your tracks really skinny, like I do.

Agree with most of the above.
what would be great for me was if I could choose my own noise, compressor etc from my vst's

Just bear in mind, this is a 7.0 screenshot, and the GUI was slightly updated in 7.04.

Namely, the strips for each rack (i.e. where it says "INSERTS" and "STRIP") and the appearance of slots that have plugins in them have been cleaned up a little bit. It's open to opinion, obviously, but I think it looks much cleaner now (and hopefully the will continue improving it).
The update version is what I Wanted to see yes. I really don't like the inserts section. Just a shot of the mixer in general so I can see who it looks better than 7.0 as that was an issue for me. It did look so unfinished.

Thanks! Cubase has so much to offer I am finding new things every day.

For sure! If they make a way for your to build your channel strip GUI to put any VST plugin into the strip, holy shit would that be awesome! I like to believe they are working on it--seems like it would just be a mash-up between the "remote control interface builder" thing and the channel strip. Man, that would be unreal!

@Aiynzahev
I will be at work for a few more hours, but if nobody has had a chance to post a screenshot before then, I will.

i think they should just ditch the channel strip. it like, so steinberg, let me get this straight... you want me to believe that professional producers with very modern, fast cpus, using the best plugins they can buy, choose to use the cubase channel strip? why? what benefits does it offer over plugins. nothing, thats what. it offers no benefits and clutters up the mixer :dog:

Yep. I really like C7 overall and am still happy I upgraded, but the whole channel strip thing is a horrifically stupid failure.

well it allows a quicker workflow in theory in that you don't have to insert a gate, compressor etc etc etc.

but I wish actually you could disable it.

its not that its a failure, its the way they implemented it. they chose to take the business benefit over the consumer benefit. meaning they purposely chose to save money and maximize profit by, recycling old cubase effects/using cheaply designed in house effects, instead of hiring a professional third party that specializes in modern sounding high quality effects/dsp. and because of that, the consumer has suffered immensely while steinberg maximises profits. again, 'disgusting'.

Who says that Yamaha wasn't involved?

Do you actually have proof that these tools are recycled, other than going by the plain GUI? And yes, the LA2A and 1176 clone(ish) plugins are butt-ugly, but that's Steinberg since mid 90ies.
