How Many Different DAWs Do You Use?

Owns fl studio, ableton 8 and 9, sonar, mulab, mixcraft pro 6, reaper, studio one.
Mixcraft pro 6 is probably my pick.
FL studio does some weird crap with midi...it doesn't recognize my mod wheel. I know you can fix it but for the price of the thing it should be just plug and play. Very irritating.

Once again typical bad question which leaves room for missunderstandings:breakmixer wrote:Only one, Cubase 7, and I still don't fully understand it, would not even bother getting another...it does everything I need it to do so far.
using just one sequencer brand, doesn't mean same thing than to use just one DAW.
DAW means the digital audio workstation, you can use several workstations although you used just one sequencer brand. Therefore this voting has no value.
One my behalf I use just the Live (used to have Logic when it was PC) but I have two DAWs, desktop and laptop (which I think is the most common setup nowdays, in the future maybe the third one is a tablet). Harry

My Daws are FL Studio, Cubase 5 & Studio One Pro.
FLS was my 1st ("you all know the saying about your 1st love" right!)
Its my sketchpad that i can chop, program, layer, arrange & mix in it however its recording function, i find awkward so i don't use it.
Cubase 5 for tracking beats from my MPC2500, recording vocals / live instruments Studio one pro because it does everything Cubase does in a much more sensible & logical manner that it grew on me instantly.
The most used & attractive feature (to me) is the bouncing of Audio & midi....its Fantastic!
I really cant fault any of the Daws I have because they work for me and that's whats important _ what workflow works for you!
TBH I'm not interested in using Reason, Logic, Live, Pro tools et al as the hype around them really puts me off (besides that, I don't really want the learning curve) but I may try Reaper - trouble is if i like it - I may have to invest in it!

That theory would be fine except for the inalienable fact that the term 'DAW', in the specific context of software, is a synonym for what you're calling a 'sequencer'.Harry_HH wrote:Once again typical bad question which leaves room for missunderstandings:breakmixer wrote:Only one, Cubase 7, and I still don't fully understand it, would not even bother getting another...it does everything I need it to do so far.

FLS only here. Tried a few others, but mostly couldn't get to grips quick enough, and I'm already fluent in FLS.
Only one that I had a little look at that would possibly be able to tempt me away from FLS would probably be MuLab, as it seems somehow intuitive to me - although I couldn't really say why without it sitting in front of me. Probably it's modular...ness.
One thing that I do love about FLS, that most hosts don't seem to be able to do simply, is the ability to switch a note on and let it run indefinitely. Maybe I've been trying to do it wrong but all other hosts seem to need me to keep my finger on a key or program a long note-length. It's a simply feature that I use so much for sound design that I really can't live without it!
Perhaps someone could put me right there with regards to doing that in other hosts...?

Not only I use only one DAW, but it's the same version for like 8 years now. I stick with Sonar 5, I learned how to use it and while it does what I need I see no reason to look for something else. I kind of extended it (instead of upgrading), by using it with MUX (again I stick with older version as the new one goes belly up on my setup) which brings modular structure, sidechaining and compatibility with some newer plugins which won't work properly straight in the old Sonar. Maybe it's retarded, but I loathe the perspective of wasting time on getting myself accustomed to new work layout, either on new DAW or on new version.

Numerology 3 Pro for all the MIDI, Live 8 to host plugins and as an audio recorder, Reaper 4 to mix :
- N3Pro is a fantastic MIDI sequencer, I can't do without it, but it can't handle several Diva/Aalto instances... yet.
- I love mixing in Reaper, now that I've customized it to my likings. It's so CPU effective, fast to operate, and has no PDC issues. If Reaper had the same/similar MIDI/mapping features as Live (and macros), I'd ditch L8 in a second though.

I agree, although I did see a couple of very inexpensive modular rack extensions that looked interesting. Plus, I think some of the Pink Noise Studio refills should work. If I am justifying a potential purchase of Reason Essentials as a sketchpad, I am assuming that having just one synth plus these additions should probably be fine - I can always export the midi and do further sound tinkering with my full arsenal of synth VSTschk071 wrote:Same here... the only thing holding me off is the presence of only one, at the same time oldest and most limited, synthesizer with Subtractor. If it offered only Thor, i probably would have bought it yet.bharris22 wrote:I'm thinking of getting Reason Essentials as a "resting area". I would like to try and simplify, and I think having less options while composing may be a good thing.

Not a Reason user , but what is wrong with Reasons sequencer ? Other than no VST instruments , I thought the main thing about Reason was its midi sequencer ? Kind of odd of the users complaints about it really ?
