Okay, this is kind of getting bad. All my spare money goes to VSTs. I do not know why. I know they wont make my music sound better, hard work, learning, skill, and patience will get someone there with pretty much any synth, but they are what consumes my thoughts.

Some chase girls, drugs, money, thrills, but for me, it seems like synths. More than I could ever use, more than I could ever learn.

How many VA's does someone really need? Massive, Zebra, Alpha 3, Ultra-Analog, Rapture, LuSH, Ace, Reaktor, Largo... I won't even get into my "digital" collection and others.

I realize a trend though, it seems like each one I have, I have for a handful of presets only. Not that I take the time to design those presets in only one major capable synth, but rather tweak them within their own. I think part of it is that I hate tweaking Virtual Synths, so I sift through presets and tweak once I find something close.

:help: Do not become like me. :nutter:

Maybe I need more hobbies away from this machine. :help:

Welcome to the club. GAS we call it. Gear Addiction Syndrome.

Yeah, my name is Pavel and I am a VST-holic (too).

I think I'm in the same boat. This is my main hobby, though, and I do enjoy the variety of VSTs that I own, as well as those that are available that I don't own (yet :)). If you can feed yourself and your family and can pay the rent, though, what is the harm? At least that is what I tell myself. With work and family commitments I can't seem to find good chunks of time to actually make music. On the other hand, I am in front of my computer all day, so browsing and buying VSTs is probably a subconscious attempt to satisfy that music-making urge.

I'm over my addiction, no more GAS for synths real or virtual.

Girls and drugs (especially girls WITH drugs) are much more expensive than synths. So you're at least on a better path...

Focus on what music you want to make and what gear you need to get that sound,

i.e.

If Making Techno(for example) on a PC these could be a good set-up

Drumazon
Kontakt
Alchemy
Phoscyon
FM8
1 x Polyphonic VA(Diva, Lush 101, Oxium etc)
1 more VA to complement the other
A drum sampler

then only add more VST's if you want a specific sound like PPG, Additive or String Synth etc.

Then learn what you have...or you will go around in circles and not learn anything...IMHO...

Maybe mountainbiking? After 3 months you figure that with your versatile 3500 Dollar enduro bike park riding really sucks and you need another 2800$ downhill bike.

Kiteboarding? You need at least 3 Kites a' around 1000 bucks and a board for around 600$ and after a year one kite explodes and your board gets stolen on the beach and your homespot really sucks and you spend another 2000$/year for trips ... needless to say you have to swap those kites every 2-3 years...

Paragliding? Speedflying? Motocross?
The bills you'd have to pay for reha ;)?

Actually I consider the money/time for vst instruments pretty cool, even compared to videogames.

Marbles, maybe?

Noooooooooooo!!!

Well.. same here, except just one MU module I need which will make my life perfect.

But seriously, I've been pretty much set for so long. Now I just need to finish what I started. In writing, it's so simple.

Tip for vata44 and similar: if you're gonna buy some stuff, make sure it's better than all the other stuff that does similar stuff, but first, try to know stuff better than you think you're supposed to.
