I swear I'll just get this one, and nothing ever again.

What's funny is I had this conversation with myself while sitting on the shitter, and promised myself I do not need anything else. As soon as I was done, LARGO is on sale for CHEAP in the marketplace, PM! Got it... WTF? I just swore to myself I would not...

Then I created this thread feeling excited and shameful all at once.

Talk about a steaming pile of shit... not even 15 minutes later and I already forgotten and dropped $.

I consider the occasional soft synth the antidote to starting on modular hardware!!

I'm over my addiction, no more GAS for synths real or virtual.

I seem to be on a good way now. I was selling some plugins and for that money i got Diversion (+ 2 soundsets), the upgrade to Live 9 Suite and NI Monark.

Since 6-7 weeks then the only new plugin is a Beta version which is free.

It's not that there are no interesting new plugins i would like to get but i have learned to think twice now which is a healthy development IMO...

It could happen i sell even some more plugins as the amount i got is still insane.

Kill two birds with one stone. Get addicted to modular vst's. I got a hardware modular, but I love modular vst's. currently enjoying the heck out of Sonigen, but stay tuned for updates from Urs modular. Also Karma FX modular is pretty good deal.

There is no substitute for patching real cables and twisting real knobs on a modular though. Vst modulars have polyphony and presets which is nice compared to iPhone pics of modular setups and all those cables in the way of knob settings being photographed.

Are you a preset type guy? Modulars aren't for preset guys. They are more for those that enjoy sound design. I like using presets, but love making my own better.

I like the one synth challenge entries. Shows what you can do by not having a candy stores worth of vst's in the arsenal. Get a couple good ones and force yourself to get to know them well.

I mean, how many VA's or FM synths does one need? Three synths - rompler, VA, FM and one good drum sampler should be quite enough to churn out a multitude of tracks.

I'm just a big fan of the Eurorack format. Particularly the Beshine brand....

(Only a couple knobs to tweak, but they are good ones and do a lot)

We all fall into different categories and it's likely we use different tactics on ourselves to convince ourselves to buy stuff at different times. Good sales people are very conscious of this and use many tactics to take advantage of our weaknesses and "irrationalities".

The fact is that most of us here on KVR have more audio processing and creative tools available to us than at any other time in humanity's entire recorded history! And you could even say that even if you were just running freeware. We are so totally and absolutely spoiled. Sit yourself down in a calm place and honestly ask yourself this: "Am I really taking advantage of everything I already have?"

When I was a kid, I was in a restaurant with a Great Aunt, a nice but stern old lady of the older European tradition, and while my plate was full I saw something on one of the served plates on the table that looked good and made a move for it. She immediately cut me off and sternly said: "Eat what you have!" I think most of us could benefit from that attitude!

Here's a tip: when someone tells you that you can "Save X%" by buying something on a "limited-time" deal, consider that you can save a guaranteed 100% if you don't buy it at all...
