those SE70 examples sound pretty nice...

hi ZeroCrossing......you may be right, but when I do use software plugins on a track or just no plugins using the same guitar chain (well almost, as the se-70 wont be in the chain then) it is very quiet, just doesn't sound as good.

chain is ibanez, mogami cable, into juggernaut di, thru a neutrik patch bay into the se-70 line in put at +4db....out of the se-70 into a lynx 2c......

cable length is six feet I think, guit height I think is close enough to the string......

I could just as easily be wrong though. I've never owned the SE-70. Did you check to see if you're running a compressor in the SE-70? That could explain the noise and why you like the sound a bit more. Don't get me wrong, I like Boss effects, or at least the VF-1 I had, but I don't miss it. I was using it post Vox Tonelab SE and it sure picked up the ball where the Tonelab dropped it: Effects. They also synced to MIDI. NIce. Horrible COSM though. Vox was good that way. Nice little pair. I never used it like you're using it.

Good luck in your quest. That Roland Space Chorus is going to be hard to beat.

hi, yes the compressor was on, I disabled it, but tbh it didn't seem to make any significant difference in the noise floor.

I had one, but sold it many years ago. It was good, but really, if you want it for guitar, Guitar Rig is imo miles ahead.

zvenx, I'd try Guitar Rig again. One may debate its ability to simulate "amp X", but as a modular effects environment it's second to no other plugin IMO. Look at some of the extreme effects in the 'ambient' tab. Some of them use very unusual approaches. Try some of those?

hi, I still own it and tried it.. loved its gui.....love but the modular effects don't sound as good as the se-70 in chorus, wah wah, phaser, flanger. But it does have some great and unusual effects, but wasn't enough to retire my se-70

Hm, that doesn't sound right. A compressor, unless it's coupled with an expander of some sort to form a "comp-ander" will always increase your noise a bit. It could also point to why you like the sound more too... that and it's good.

I still think you could get pretty damn close using one or a number of plugs that were mentioned in this thread.

Just seeing this old thread........I eventually gave up and got a Boss GT-100....
huge difference in noise floor, ....even at +4 not as loud as I want it into my lynx 2 C audio card (since bought a morley effects loop corrector (http://www.morleypedals.com/delc.html), it hasn't arrived yet so we shall see)...but I am definitely happier a year later with my guitar tone than before.

i am not a guitar guy, so i'm probably the wrong guy to write here, but i had both the se50 and the se70, as well as the so called successor sx700, and i for one _loved_ the se70, i should have _never_ sold it, i still miss it... it dod so many things just right, the choirusses were typical roland, which is what i love, but also the delays and the modulated reverb i adored, as well as the really great phaser... also the combinations you could do were really great... i deeply miss it. as soon as i find the motivation, i'll buy it again, if it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg... just to have that sound back... i have not really found one fx that replaces the se70... some fx are for sure more high quality these days, but imo _nothing_ has the distinctive sound of the se70, let alone in one box/one plugin...

The demos sound lovely. I wanted to play one with my new guitar at GC but they didn't have one out.

on ebay they usually have a few out of japan that are around $160 each....plus shipping from japan I guess to germany in your case.

I had forgotten I also used to use it for vocoding in the 90's
