I think he is talking about einklang, not the Neuron.aMUSEd wrote:Didn't know there was a demo. I would have thought it would be hard to really demo the VS and get a real impression of how it sounds without the Nuke because you need really to use the joystick to move in 3D space and between different levels within that space. I owned the Neuron VS. I found the sound of the Neuron VS didn't play well with other synths IMO. The resolution / response of the knobs was just stupid for such an expensive instrument. Some nice sounds here and there, but totally pwned by synths such as Alchemy and Omnisphere now. I think the whole Neuron shebang was a very sour experience for many people, I for one am cynical as f**k as to how this new project will pan out. Late this decade probably...
Prosoniq has always seemed very out of touch, like some uncomfortable exclusive geek scene with poor business aptitude. Cutting edge audio software maybe, but it all comes across as very uninviting.

while youre right about it not working with a mouse, you can assign the joystick xy values to knobs or i imagine any other xy joystick or pad you might have.aMUSEd wrote:Didn't know there was a demo. Not easily. Hartmann deliberately made it to not work well with automation, the plan was for knob movements to be recordable but that feature was never implemented before the company folded. You can record knob movements made with the Nuke using host automation but I find trying to control it in realtime using anything other than the Nuke results in CPU spikes. Also each resynator has 3 levels of params that you switch between using the button on the Nuke. So to assign an XY or joystick to every XY param you would need either to keep changing assignments or have multiple joysticks. I actually made a Lemur template for it using 7 XY pads but even with that it stutters compared to the Nuke.chaosWyrM wrote:while youre right about it not working with a mouse, you can assign the joystick xy values to knobs or i imagine any other xy joystick or pad you might have.aMUSEd wrote:Didn't know there was a demo. I lusted after the Hartmann Neuron when it first appeared, but the price tag was very high. I would still love to find one, especially after listening to this demo again on vintage synth.
How much would one of these go for now?
Will the software version give the same sounds as the Neuron Keyboard?
I have just tried the demo of einklang...I quite like it, it is weird as hell and the GUI looks like something from some weird alien future.
There is a video of the Neuron in action at the link below.

I just can't shake the feeling that the boundaries of digital synthesis are being pushed in Reaktor these days. Razor, Prizm, Skanner... Plus the weirder library stuff, of course. The Neuron never appealed, except for the 'look at me' wilfuly different design. I admire them for trying, but if I wanted a decent resynthesis type of synth I'd use Wolfgang Palm's Plex.

Do you have a link to the free windows versions? I can't find them on the Prosonic site.GeorgeZ wrote:
They still have some freebie PC vst's... which was gonna be my next point. Only thing of theirs I ever used was NorthPole (still do, even though I have Nitro and a plethora of other filters)... It's dirty, inaccurate, messy, noisy, gritty and BLOODY BRILLIANT. And FREE!clickaty!
(edit) just noticed the post i quoted is from 2009.

Hartmann was driven out of business in 2004. With the company now being dead there was no chance for <NEURON> owners to get tech support or updates. Recently a Facebook group came into existence that managed to attract many knowledgeable and skilled people who provide support and advice to each other. To aid them in the process, I have dusted off the old NeuronVS sources in order to revive the NeuronVS VST plug-in, a software-only version of the Neuron synth that came with a powerful hardware controller, the <NUKE>. Thanks to the generosity of Stefan Rapp and Axel Hartmann, I am now able to provide an updated version of the <NeuronVS> software free of charge and with no warranties of any kind.

it all maps out quite nicely on a sl mkii using automap. granted, you need to use 2 knobs or sliders for each level of the resynators...but the sl mkii has plenty of those, and automap does all the work for you...easy peasy.aMUSEd wrote:Not easily. The database download time is pretty slow, so I thought, while I have the chance to stop it, I'd ask if there is an absolute requirement for the NUKE controller before the plugin even makes a noise?
I wanted this first time around also, but that price!
Do I need to keep an eye on the ebay for these controllers?
--edit
sorry - just found something saying it is indeed possible to use other controllers, but mapping to the joysticks.. I suppose this could be done with two faders..?

ya, that's what I think. but amused maintains {in the marketplace thread covering this topic} using a generic midi controller causes CPU spikes during real-time use, while the NUKE controller does not. So, you know, make of that what you will. I'm certainly skeptical. the db is taking forever to download so haven't tried it yet myself. Though I don't have a Nuke controller to compare CPU performance with anyway.chaosWyrM wrote:it all maps out quite nicely on a sl mkii using automap. granted, you need to use 2 knobs or sliders for each level of the resynators...but the sl mkii has plenty of those, and automap does all the work for you...easy peasy.aMUSEd wrote:Not easily. i didnt see any cpu spikes at all, if iirc cpu never went above 10% the entire time. it worked just fine without the nuke, but i was also using the old version (on a windows computer), and it did have a pretty nasty memory leak that would eat up ram by the fist full every time you changed presets. so after switching presets about 10 or 15 times...it would idle at over 1000 mb of ram. even if you didnt change presets it still had a bit of a mem leak...just slower. removing the synth from the project didnt free the memory back up either, you have to close and reopen your daw to get it back.ChiTown24 wrote:ya, that's what I think. but amused maintains {in the marketplace thread covering this topic} using a generic midi controller causes CPU spikes during real-time use, while the NUKE controller does not.
