What would Oscar think? A song about being original using quotations copied from Oscar Wilde. 'Be yourself every one else is taken.'

Thanks to those that have a listen. :)

Wilde Temptation
Music: John Wegner
Words: Oscar Wilde

Most people are other people, their thoughts are someone else's opinions,
Their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation
I am so clever that sometimes I don't
Understand a single word of what I am saying

There is only one thing worse than this
I can resist everything but temptation.

I can only find my way by moonlight and my punishment
Is that I see the dawn before the rest of the world
You will always be fond of me I represent to you
All the sins you never had the courage to commit

There is only one thing worse than this
I can resist everything but temptation.

Everything in the worlds about sex; sex is power
The very essence of romance is uncertainty
You love someone because they singing a song only you can hear
The heart was made to be broken

There is only one thing worse than this
I can resist everything but temptation.

God in creating man somewhat overestimated his ability
Books labeled Immoral show the world it's own shame
Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future
I don't want to go to heaven none of my friends are there.

There is only one thing worse than this
I can resist everything but temptation.

Be yourself, everyone else is already taken
To live is the rarest thing in the world, most people exist that is all
Always forgive your enemies, nothing annoys them so much
We are all in the gutter, but some of us out looking at the stars

That was interesting, the way you put those lyrics together. I had some fun with those. I really liked the way this was structured with all of its different sections. I loved that part starting at 4:02 with the swept guitar sound leading into the build-up with the parallel vocal parts. There is definitely an authentic '70s Prog feel to this.

Good work

Thanks Tim. I was going for more of a symphonic feel with this. I have always enjoyed Oscar Wilde as an entertainer, I imagine he would have revelled in twitter if he lived now. He certainly was a celebrity, who happened to write great plays etc. The section you describe was fun to do, and I am very pleased with it also. I used an ipad synth for it and the drum machine. ;)

I would have made an other - faster - melody for the vocals, but I like the lyrics.

This is my favorite one:

"Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future
I don't want to go to heaven none of my friends are there."

and this one:

"Most people are other people, their thoughts are someone else's opinions,
Their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation
I am so clever that sometimes I don't
Understand a single word of what I am saying."

:hihi:

Thanks Tricky. I think Oscar Wilde had a great way with words but there are several themes underlying them all that made it enjoyable to put them together in this way. After all his life was a Wilde Temptation.

He could have been a rock star if he wouldn't have written so much...

You are so right. In fact I like to think of him as a early version of such. Put a play out, do some publicity, go on to the substances, big night out etc... Repeat until ....

excellent creative thinking. dig the depth and slight vibrato in your voice, adds a cool dramatic element, and yes, nice guitar line there.
good stuff
