Looking for some real good solid info on what types of PC components I should be looking at for a new computer build. Let's be honest, Mac is way overpriced and that's just not happening.

My current setup is probably due for a new tune up bad because with all this software, things are slow as a turtle and sometimes my pc will turn off just in the midst of overloading maybe. I have a quad core i7 cpu and asus p6t motherboard with 12gb corsair ram but this ram is like 6 sticks but not very much between all them. Not savvy in this stuff. I know its not the 1800 or whatever which is supposed to be amazing.

My 3 tb of internal hdd is pretty much coming to an end. I'm like at 800 gb left. Which is not a lot considering all the software and gear I own and constantly buy. I have 2 external hdd and they are taking a beating too for samples and my backups for my sound libraries and what not so I don't have to re-install each and everytime.

What I really would like to look forward to is a full tower case and a very awesome motherboard which can hold ram that will not make my music production sessions freeze, cpu spike, or shutoff. I heard I may need to get solid state drives? Dam, are those really needed? Expensive!!!

All in all Im happy with my windows 7 64 bit. I just need a great fast computer. I thought this one was but obviously not.

Sometimes just buying more stuff is not the answer, especially when "too much stuff" is part of the problem ;-)

That PC of yours is fine. But you definitely need to buy a SSD drive! Use that only for the OS & main plugins. That will instantly bring back the snappy performance you want. Also reserve 20 GB on the SSD drive for paging, and you won't have any memory problems anymore ever.

And do some housekeeping on the storage drives, archive whatever you don't need anymore. Don't make "backups" on the same drive. When that drive gets toasted, your backup is lost also. So always make backups on external drives. And if the original install came on a DVD or whatever, why make a backup? You have the original already.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image
