FXpansion Spam email ?spam? Turbo

Hi all,

We are very actively investigating the "Dub Turbo" spam email that appeared to come from info@fxpansion.com. DUB TURBO is in no way affiliated or endorsed by FXpansion.

Our leading theory at this point is an email address stripper was watching the 3rd party bulk email services we use to send our newsletters; your account information should be completely safe. In particular, your credit card info isn't stored or even processed by FXpansion servers - that's all done by HSBC and Paypal.

We will keep you informed, and strive to ensure such annoyance and anxiety-causing spam does not reoccur.

Many thanks for the assurance re credit card info Skot. Good to know. Have you guys got virus/malware scans going? Maybe something's come in on a USB stick or from the net that mails everyone in your address book. Good luck tracking this down. Keep us posted.

Don't know if this helps you to narrow down the possibilities at all, but I'm also an FXpansion customer and I didn't get the turbo-spam.

Not that I'm feeling left out or anything...

Just thought of something else which might help - although I have an FXpansion forum account, I've never posted there.

Did you check in the spam folder? Mine went directly to spam despite being from a 'trusted' sender. Maybe it was detected as spam because exactly the same message has been sent from multiple exploited (for lack of a better word) mailing lists.

I don't have an FX forum account, I've just bought plug-ins there, both from a third party store based in the US (that Etch special offer from a while back) and directly from the site. Maybe we can rule the forum out as the source. Hopefully we can figure out what everyone who got the mail has in common if people keep posting info.

Feel sorry for the FX dudes. Must suck having to deal with this when you want to be dealing with plug-ins!

LongURL.org is a handy site for expanding shortened links (make sure you show details on the redirects too). It appears to jump through a Clickbank referral before landing on the DubTurbo website meaning that, were you to buy that piece of shit, the person who engineered the mail would get a cut. Nothing immediately dodgy that I can see in terms of malware. Rest easy.

^ Cheers man. As an excuse I was waiting for a FXp mail to confirm Geist had landed in my account after a Market Place buy. So I clicked on it and the subsequent link, even though a voice in my head was whispering 'are you mad?"

Still, Geist absolutely rocks.All I need to do know is work out how I'm gonna set it up in Live with different channels...but that's for another thread.

I also only bought Etch from Audiomidi.

I wonder if there lies the connection.

And something else, and this is pure speculation, Since I registered and bought samples and plugins from a few online shops my spam has tripled! I used to get relatively little but shortly after a couple of new signups to shops there has been a noticeable increase.

I got it too, it was in my junkmail folder, so someone got hold of all the email adresses of FXpansion's customers? That's a bit frightening...

it is a bit concerning that someone got all those email addresses but i haven't bought anything from any other sites or Fx recently so i think it must be on Fxs' end.

@samsam, i think hijackthis will tell you if there's anything got onto your system. See you got Geist as well, nice!

I just want to know if it is definately only fxpansion users that got it - Did anyone that is not an fxpansion user get it? Curious...
