I've always been a fan of the original version of Glitch, however...

With this new release (I'm checking out the demo), I find a LOT of things missing:

1. MIDI learn for any knob/parameter you want. This was what made Glitch insanely fun (though it DID make it crash, a LOT... in Sonar, or Reaper)... there is no midi learn for anything. I thought this was essential for live tweaking of a drumloop... especially with the retrigger or stretch effects...

2. The new Retrigger effect - I don't like how you can't link the times for the start and end of the effect. It's annoying turning both, just to get that solid buzz sound. Also, where's the pitch parameters for it? Bending the pitch up and cutting it short using the S. Change parameter was one of my favorite things about Retrigger. Also, the length was a perfect gate tweak, too.

3. The Delay effect seems to be missing several parameters which made version 1 sound dope... and added a few which to me, sound like they make little difference.

4. No MUTE/SOLO buttons? Would be nice to bring effects in and out on the fly... but again... no MIDI learn....

I know I can't be the only one bothered by these things...

PROS:
Much easier to use, a-la Effectrix, and a little less confusing layout.... but then again, a lot of parameters are missing....

Just a few initial observations...

I decided not to add MIDI learn this time, simply because any modern DAW will offer its own superior parameter learning. Ableton Live, for example, makes this easy as hell. It's also a piece of cake in Renoise, which is my preferred host. I didn't see much point in hacking in my own learn function, when it would just be another layer of unnecessary clutter between your host and the plugin.

Fair comment. I will consider tweaking this.
themixtape wrote:3. The Delay effect stops immediately after the block has passed. With the old version of Glitch, it seemed like the Delay lasted forever as it played...
The overall behaviour is the same in both the old and new version. If you don't have any blocks programmed into the sequencer, then the effect simply won't play. Why would it continue playing when you haven't programmed it to do so? If you want a continuous delay sound, then you should draw one big delay block that fills the whole sequencer.

I will add these.

Thanks for your feedback :)

Thanks for the quick reply.. I updated my post to reflect my ignorance.. haha. The delay is the same, yes. But check out the updated thoughts...

Thanks for an amazing, and fun plug-in.... you single-handedly changed the game on glitch music when version 1 was released. Don't think I'm not still a fan just because I prefer all the tweakability of version 1. :)

Ok, re: the host/DAW midi learn... I armed automation for any of the effect parameters in Glitch 2 (Retrigger Initial or Final speed, etc)... and no matter what midi controller I use, the knobs never turn properly.. they jump around and stick.

I'm using Reaper 4.21, and tried an MPD32, MPKmini, and Oxygen49 midi controller. No luck with any of them.

In Glitch 1, the midi learn works perfectly. I right-click, turn a fader or knob on my midi controller... voila. So I know it's not my host or midi controller...

I'd like to make a request for a preset. If there was something similar to effectrix "ending soon" preset. I would never have to use that software again. Just sayin... Oh and maybe stutter that tool in effectrix is pretty handy as well.

I do sometimes automate the Sends to a Delay to emphaze single notes/parts without automating the Return. This can be really useful, and to be honest, I hoped that I could use Glitch2 in the future to simplify the workflow of doing this "trick". But I see also, that the current implementation is more in line with the main idea of the plugin. Nevertheless I would be happy to see in a future update an option in the Delay effect, that would allow to get trailing delays.

Hey dBlue,

Is there any chance of having the order of fx able to be modified by scene? I feel it would make the plugin much more versatile but might be a pain to implement. other than that all I really miss is the pitch and slice length parameters for the stutter effect and the slicer/ slice reordering module. I would also love to see some lfos of mod sequencers in addition to the envelope followers.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

This looks pretty cool, I'll have to demo it.

Which Logic bugs are you referring to exactly?

The "clip bug" stuff mentioned above by QuantumState has been resolved in private, and was technically not a bug.

The transport sync issue mentioned elsewhere in this thread has been fixed in 2.0.2.

If you're referring to something else, then please give me specific details.

Cheers,
K.

Whilst I think $60 is quite expensive given the (somewhat lack of) "added value" on top of the free version, it's not actually that expensive if you take into account all the years of free usage we've had from glitch 1.

So as a tip of the hat to dbblue - I bought it just then, after jbridge->glitch1 nuked my unsaved ableton project

Price €49,95
TAXES €10,49
Total €60,44 EUR

Those $%^*#&! taxes :x
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

Now that the 'just-released-hype' is over, do you think it's worth buying this?
