That was from memory, I was still downloading the database while I posted that comment in the MarketPlace and my comment to chaosWyrM was before it was available and I was struggling to try and get it working on my Mac using a Windows emulator and Lemur. Certainly if you check out reviews of the Neuron they report the same cpu spikes with midi cc (Computer Music described it as "unusable"). I guess the reason that might have changed is todays cpus are a lot faster and less prone to denormals (the Neuron also had a nasty denormal bug, maybe they have fixed that too). Plus they have taken out the requirement for the Nuke to be a dongle of course. Now I have it fully up and running I tried it again with my Lemur template and it is working better now but the Nuke is still slicker as a controller.ChiTown24 wrote:ya, that's what I think. but amused maintains {in the marketplace thread covering this topic} using a generic midi controller causes CPU spikes during real-time use, while the NUKE controller does not. So, you know, make of that what you will. I'm certainly skeptical. the db is taking forever to download so haven't tried it yet myself. Though I don't have a Nuke controller to compare CPU performance with anyway.chaosWyrM wrote:it all maps out quite nicely on a sl mkii using automap. granted, you need to use 2 knobs or sliders for each level of the resynators...but the sl mkii has plenty of those, and automap does all the work for you...easy peasy.aMUSEd wrote:Not easily. Hartmann deliberately made it to not work well with automation, the plan was for knob movements to be recordable but that feature was never implemented before the company folded. You can record knob movements made with the Nuke using host automation but I find trying to control it in realtime using anything other than the Nuke results in CPU spikes. Also each resynator has 3 levels of params that you switch between using the button on the Nuke. So to assign an XY or joystick to every XY param you would need either to keep changing assignments or have multiple joysticks. I actually made a Lemur template for it using 7 XY pads but even with that it stutters compared to the Nuke.chaosWyrM wrote:while youre right about it not working with a mouse, you can assign the joystick xy values to knobs or i imagine any other xy joystick or pad you might have.aMUSEd wrote:Didn't know there was a demo. I would have thought it would be hard to really demo the VS and get a real impression of how it sounds without the Nuke because you need really to use the joystick to move in 3D space and between different levels within that space. It doesn't allow you to do that with a mouse.

For those of you who got it to work with AudioHijack, how were you able to route midi into AudioHijack? Since AudioHijack is typically used with VST effects not instruments, what did you select as the preferred device to hijack?

In Logic Pro 9 too, through VSTAU Manager...MaF wrote:In Cubase 6.0.7 the plugin only opens with a black window and nothing to edit. In Live 9.0.1 it doesn't even show up in the VST plugin list.
...and fortunately the default preset sounds perfectly !

I can't get that thing to work, crashes while scanning every time.Krakatau wrote:In Logic Pro 9 too, through VSTAU Manager...MaF wrote:In Cubase 6.0.7 the plugin only opens with a black window and nothing to edit. In Live 9.0.1 it doesn't even show up in the VST plugin list.

It first crashes the VST-AU Manager, so i cleaned my vst folder to what strictly necessary, finally loaded,
Then first AU validation blocked, the next succeeded
Load then successfully in Logic, but without the GUI ...

I guess that means that even AUVST manager doesn't support VST 2.1 plugins.

That what i assume too, (concerning the GUI)

It's pretty cool to be able to experience some of the magic from this short-lived instrument (works fine in Bidule). I was always curious about it. The sounds are very interesting in their evolving nature, but the quality seems a little "2D" by today's softsynth standards, reminiscent of early VSTi's. The original keyboard was 24-bit; not sure about VS. I'm also experiencing distortion on some patches that appears to be internal to the VSTi; there doesn't seem to be a master volume, unless I missed it, so lowering each amplitude parameter seems like the only way to control it. Anyway it's pretty amazing to be able to fool around with it for free. I don't see why the authors couldn't fix it and bring it up to speed as a reasonably priced commercial product...
@aMUSEd: is it possible to emulate the Nuke completely using a Lemur template? Is there some functionality that isn't controllable via CC?

One of the biggest criticisms of the patch library has always been lack of attention to consistent levels - some patches are very quiet, others nearly blow your speakers. Also compared to todays standards the resynthesis used in the models is probably pretty low quality so it is true quite a lot of patches have quite a grungy quality, also the effects tend towards the grungy end: decimator, distortion, ring mod - the main thing they left out from the hardware unit was inclusion of a reverb so you could add one to add sheen and space to sounds. Otherwise it's identical, probably the only plugin that can really claim that level of fidelity to the original hardware.Breeze wrote:It's pretty cool to be able to experience some of the magic from this short-lived instrument (works fine in Bidule). Only a small proportion of params are exposed for host automation unfortunately - you can automate the Sphere and Scape controls and the Filter but none of the lfos, envelopes, fx etc. However you can select those as modulation targets and assign to aftertouch, modwheel etc, so in practice you can control almost everything. I made a Lemur template covering the Scape/Sphere and Filter controls but haven't had time to test it properly, I think some of the cc's might have changed as the filter control works but not the Sphere/Scape ones so I will need to re-edit it when I have time.

Thanks for the info. There's no doubt about the resynthesis; some of the aliasing is pretty bad.
I compared the CC assignment in the KBD and VS manuals and they seem mostly the same except for a few omissions on the VS side which look mostly like FX and other controls irrelevant to the VS. I admit that I don't know enough about Neuron and the Nuke's inherent functionality to be a judge of what's possible and what's not, but the CC list looks quite comprehensive, if incomplete. Now whether they're all implemented and functional is another story...aMUSEd wrote:I think some of the cc's might have changed as the filter control works but not the Sphere/Scape ones so I will need to re-edit it when I have time.

It works perfectly in Renoise, mapped to a nanoKontrol. No USB Nuke here. Like its absurd sound a lot, however it appears as if one can get it to clip-distort and/or max out the CPU too easily (C2D 2.4 here). Are the Freq FX/Time FX parameter levels at that Silver thing automatable/accessible anyhow without the original controller?

For those who have the old Windows version and have an XP and Win7 64bit machine:
I've got NeuronVS running as a 'slave' on my XP machine using Win7 64bit and FL Studio 11 using Wormhole2 for MIDI, and CopperLan for audio. The latency is bad, but it's useable and can still use it with the Nuke controller (on XP). Here are the links:
Wormhole2

CopperLan

Like other Windows users, I'd love to see a version that works on Win7 64bit but I doubt it will happen.
Best,
Ed

Any idea where to install the database on Mac? The manual mentions an installer that doesn't exist for the mac at least.
