Thanks for this nice freebie Beat & Synapse. But where the catch? 3 badass sounding oscillators + 69 additional waveforms, tons of filters, 3 lfos, 24 slot mod matrix, unison + spread, fm + arp ... all that for free? Come on guys, I am sure I missed something... :D

Well, Dune LE is missing the FX section that is included with Dune ;)

Post

I have some wiered osc problems. I don't have access to the pulse wave/square wave and sine wave neither in the osc section (except osc 3/sub osc iirc) nor the lfo section. Tried it numerous times but not sure what went wrong. I think I discovered later that I have a square wave but on the sine button. I thought once that I maybe have to modulate something for that but that would make no sense for a pure sine wave.

Anyway, I loved what I heard so far. Nice ARP. Beautiful Unison / Spread / Voice options for huge rich sounds. I LOVE (!!!) the matrix which reminds me a lot on Reasons Thor (not as many options but from the usability).

Cheers,
Sebastian

So nice deal as it's for free :)
Yeah, Dune BE is more or less Dune without the FX section.
That's a great deal for people like me who like to use external FX anyway. Wow! I actually have troubles turning the FX off on every patch in VSTis... so this is even more convenient for me. It seems like it's got the same number of modulation slots, yes - 24.

Thank you so much, Synapse and Beat magazine! That's very generous of you to give almost a fully featured version for free. Dune is a nicely sounding VA.

edit: Dune BE + ET-301 :-o :D

Only 32bit?
But it is still a great synth :tu:

Hehe, exactly my thoughts. I don't care for onboard effect units most of the time and disable them as soon as possible. Especially distortion. A synth is cool as long as his oscillators, filters and mod capalities rock. A lot of synths sound bland without them (fx).

From another thread about the BE edition:

- no FX unit
- only 32bit
- only 128 presets

Have to check if my osc problem will happen tomorrow again.

Weird... what OS and host are you using? Also, do you use 32-bit or 64-bit version? Never had a problem similar to yours here on Windows 64-bit and Cubase 32-bit.

I got no problems with this, I got Dune BE a while back when it came with the Beat Magazine.

Anybody else downloading Dune LE from the Beat Facebook page, also got this problem?

Maybe I missed something. I liked the Beat page on FB, but no Dune.

There is a download button section somewhere on the top of the page. It's not easy to spot. :)

According to my problem with the osc I will check it tomorrow. I don't have access to it right now but I am sure I did something wrong. It's usually the user. :)

When you like the Beat page, dj ray, just go to "downloads" section, and there is a huge picture of Dune BE with huge "DOWNLOAD" written below it. You can't miss it. :D

I have no problems whatsoever with Dune BE [knocking on wood!]. XP-SP3, Reaper, EnergyXT 1.4.

Yes, we get only 1 bank of presets with it, so 128 presets, but for a tweaker like me it's not a problem, and Dune is so easy and wonderful to program anyway. I think one could load Dune patches in it, if I'm not mistaken?... yes you can, I just tried. :D

Or is there a way to do that. I tried using this software called DMD-bank makerv2.0 that is free but it did not work for this synth.
You can load all the presets individually (fxp) up to a bank of 128.
Then you can save them all as a bank...fxb
edit...I only have the paid for version, so not certain if that's in the free versions or not.
If so how do you do that
go to a blank bank in Dune BE it would B and C unless you already loaded other banks pick first init patch load the preset you want there then go to the next init repeat until you have however many you want then save the bank.
Okay I am messing around with it now

If I load a blank init bank in c the I can load an individual patch into one of its presets. I can continue to do this until it is filled up then save the whole bank. to create a favorites list from all the banks I need to save each patch individually first then load them this way on an individual basis, and then save the whole bank to a separate folder

first create them as individual files then load them into a blank bank and save the whole bank to create my favorites file.

Lot of work to create a faves bank would have been nice if they had created a simpler way to favorite a preset.

I also appreciate the offer from Beat and Synapse. I have the CM version of Dune, and I've used it on a few tunes. I'm still evaluating it, but I'd consider buying it just to remove some of the limitations. As good as Dune sounds in the CM version (and now this new version), I bet some of the built-in effects really bring the presets to life. And it's true that many of us use out-board effects, sometimes it's nice just to not have to mess with all that!

Besides, now that I have two "teaser" versions of Dune, I'm pretty sure I'll break down at some point and finally buy it. Hopefully the "BE" version will have presets compatible with the full version, once I get that. I know the CM versions aren't compatible.

Btw, how do you deal with presets in a track project? When you load the init patch in bank B or C, then create your own patch, do that for 10 instances for example, the next time you load your project, every instance will be reset to patch 1 of bank A, so you have to choose patch 1 of bank B and C again for every instance...
