For those who need more presets Dune BE can load Dune presets (without the fx of course !). With Big Tick Zen installed for example u can already download a bunch of them.

How? Does Zen not distinguish between Dune and Dune BE?

Post

That's odd.

I liked the TIGER BEAT Magazine page on FB, but I don't see a link for Dune, either. Maybe it's because of all the photos of Taylor Swift and Justin Beiber.

I'll keep looking....

Actually, I did "Like" the correct Beat Magazine page, but I really don't see anything about Dune.

If someone who's already downloaded it could give us a screenshot of where to look, that might help. I've scanned this page for 10 minutes almost, and even had Firefox look for the word "Dune" on it. No luck.

Thanks for your help! In the meantime, I'm going to see what Taylor Swift has to say on Tiger Beat Magazine.

Thanks, Numanoid!

This is a totally different Beat Magazine page than what showed up in Facebook's search engine. Your link will probably help many people!

That said, I'm still having problems, and from what I can see, other people are having problems "registering" for the software. And unfortunately, Beat's information is all in German, so there's really no help available.

Actually, you don't need Facebook. Alternatively, you can register at www.beatdrive.de to get all Beat Magazine freebies. You just need some basic skills in German.

"Basic skills in German" is an oxymoron.

That said, Google Chrome will translate Beat's German pages on the fly, and might allow you to create an account where you can download Dune and many other VSTs.

Steve

EDIT: Nope, you can enter all the information you want in Chrome, but you can't actually click the button to register. Between Chrome and another browser (displaying the page in German), you should be able to figure out what to enter and register successfully, like I did.

Is Dune BE available on Beatdrive too? It doesn't show up on the plugins page... http://www.beatdrive.de/?t=plugins

I didn't see it there, though there are many other VSTs available. So even after all this, I may still only have the CM version of Dune...and a few other "BE" versions of cool synths, at least. Can't really complain!

Looks like some sample packs are available on the Samples page, too--but I haven't had time to translate that.

Since I don't have Dune, Zen doesn't find it. So in the options, I manually activate Dune and the presets starts to download. Then u can either load them by finding the fxp files in Zen directory OR you can try to load a patch in Zen, Zen will prompt for the dll file, just choose DuneBE dll and it should work.

No more problems overhere with the osc section. Still can not believe that they released a full synth without fx for free...btw one of the best synth pianos I have ever heard: patch 24 Electric Piano RH. That's some nice MKII (or at least Rhodes) sound for pure synthesis. Nice expression.

I think I figured out what happened to my wave form problem: I have my usual chain after DUNE which contains Maxwell Smart (brickwall limiter) for safety reasons.

I don't know why but when I enable it my square turns into a saw and my sine into a square. A little bit like waveshaping. But it did not even reach the threshold (!!!). When I disable the limiter I have to "reset" the oscillators by clicking on/through them to get my normal wave forms. Pretty wiered because I always do my stuff on low levels and the limiter is not even touching the sound...it is only there if I should come into some nasty feedback problems...

I run my all my stuff at 32bit and 44.1 or 48kHz (not quite sure) inside Reaper right now. I bet it has something to do with Maxwell Smart.

Edit: I tried George Yohngs W1 Limiter instead and no problems so far. Waveforms looks good.

Sebastian

This Dune is so nicely programmable and sounding good that I almost feel guilty using it for free. Yeah, I do feel guilty. That must have been the whole purpose of these CM and BE editions, I suppose, to make you buy the full version. :D Although, I'm not really that eager to use its "onboard" FX, since I always use other, better sounding and more versatile FX, and Dune's sound is really good even without any FX, and that's a real accomplishment in my synth design book. ;)

It's a great "workhorse" synth. :tu:
