I love Nanostudio as a mini DAW: http://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/

For connecting apps there's Audiobus: http://audiob.us/

And for Garageband MIDI export there's midiO. Not sure if there's an iPad version of it though.

Not really for iOS yet.
For people who use Garagebnand I have been recommending using an app that passes midi into Garageband and the midi could be exported elsewhere later.

Was hoping Tabletop would become something useable for midi management, but it's experiencing growing pains. I may try it out still.

...of course i'm talking about ios garageband version not a desktop one.

so there is no midi import/export in it?

With the tool midiO I mentioned it's possible to export MIDI.

For importing you'd need tools like Synphonix or Nanostudio OR if you own Logic Express you can go with that.
