I don't think so:

late Middle English: from Latin, originally 'a ring'

There is not a best item. No best car.. no best job.. no best food.. no best computer.. no best operating system.. no best antivirus.. no best son.. no best daughter.. no best weather.. no best chair.. no best bed.. no best shirt.. no best shoes.. no best keyboard.. no best guitar.. no best headphones.

So please stop asking for the best. If you are asking what is best for you how can we tell? We are not you.

If you are asking what is my best? Why would that matter you are not me... if I ever could give you an answer. Because, even for a person, the definition of best when it comes to possessions often changes with experience and situation.

Well it is. I had latin for four years when in highschool and quite frankly it's one of the few things I remember.

Indonesian language is even better. You simply double the word so chicken/chickens is ayam/ayam ayam and pig/pigs is babi/ babi babi.

THAT is correct English.

Er, wait a minute, are you saying my cunning double bluff, was actually wrong?

Er, I can rectify that, it was a triple bluff there, I knew what most people thought was wrong, but that was actually right, but in reality really was wrong all along. That's it. Gotcha!

Busted anyway, by the looks of it. Oh well.

At least when I go for dinner 'round my Mum's, I can say: "No Mother, not tonight, thank you most kindly, only three Asparagii for me, quite sufficient!".

She will probably clip me round the ear and tell me to stop swearing, but the kudos from the rest of my very well educated family will be worth it.

LOL That's why I made it small, so you can make regular backups. My backups are just few hundred MBs! OK, it's more than 600, but it fits nicely onto a regular old-fashioned CD. ;) And that's the one of the main purposes of having a cut down OS, so you can back it up easily, but it also works as fast as hell. :D
I run DuXP as well on my main overclocked quad core DAW. And may I say what a mighty fine stripped down, no nonsense, perfectly working piece of nLited goodness it is. I salute you sir! A few years it's been running now. And quite amazingly, no issues.

Ok, the odd 'niggle' because something superfluous one is used to with a normal XP install has been ripped, but no biggie. You did warn people of such things anyway. I kind of feel as if I owe you a beer or two DuX old chap.

I messed with nLite, but I never came up with anything near the masterpiece that is DuXP.

I also fix people's computers. McAfee, Norton, AVG, Avira... Some of them are decent AV and great as an on demand scanner if you can turn them off whilst doing audio. But I'm just finishing a couple of years research about running audio applications with security and thank deity my journey is over. It was fun for a while. But I will just say. Do not run ANY security on a computer that is running a DAW. None of the DAW manufacturers care about you or your security. They work to a base line of you running with full Administrator privileges and with NO ANTI-VIRUS. That's ok. That's just how it is. But that's for another thread. Or two.

And you might be right about Anti-Virus being as bad as Viruses(Virii?).

I just installed one by mistake and it made me full on log on to my real Admin account - the cheeky buggers - locking me out of my own computer.

Seriously, the inbuilt security in Win7 is not bad at all and it is worth taking advantage of. But DO NOT TRY RUNNING A DAW WITH IT. You will have a life of misery. I am finally admitting defeat and wiping my rig and starting again. Throwing away three years worth of OS setup. And every major DAW manufacturer will thank me, because it has been a major PITA for them too.

I stand corrected. It seems like the Latin word has different meanings depending on the context.

"the Latin word anus (fundament; old woman; hag; matron; old, aged; ring, circle, link; year; age)"

Ok, this thread has been a lot of fun, but VitaminD is quite right.

Because some systems with very similar specs on paper might have a framework installed that interferes or, you know, you have to try it out.

I've named the major free on demand scanners that will find 90 percent of anything nasty on your system. These are some of the best (free)

1: Hitman Pro (I have a license)
2: MalwareBytes (I have a license)

Avast works perfectly on a lot of systems, but it has always been a resource hog for me.

Find yourself a friendly security minded buddy and ask nicely, or post in this thread, without the flame bait that is 'What is the best?'.

State your system specs. State your DAWs. State your main plugins. State whether you run internet or not. State what you want to achieve (i.e. what level of security you would like to have - fully locked down, or just good enough to get by). I bet some sad old bugger like me will help you out for the fun of it. And even if you run into problems, they can probably be sorted out.

There is no best. That is the one and only rule. But there is a top 10, depending on the factors I mentioned above.

No really. I remember classes were mostly about crushing endless lists of words and conjugations. I thought it was boring as hell and was glad when I finally decided to drop out. I'm not sure about the english language but there actually is quite of lot of latin incorporated in the dutch language so the important references are already covered by dutch language itself. At this moment latin is removed from most school levels. Only the gymnasium still teaches it in combination with ancient Greek -which in my opinion is even more redundant.

Speaking English has helped me to learn Italian, so there must be much Latin influence in the English language...

I'm in a curious mood tonight.

What Anti-Virus do you use?

Roughly what security if anything else apart from AV?

What drew you to this thread?

If you were not interested in security?

Not important, but you know...

If I understand correctly, English is a 'Germanic' language, but then again so is Welsh. I speak about as much Welsh as I do German, which obviously is not a lot.

I think the similarities between Welsh and German though are very striking. So it kind of makes sense. There are very few between Welsh and English, that's for sure.

Though I do remember some thing I saw that threw all that lot of nonsense out with some research that goes back tens of thousands of years. Linguistics, especially comparative linguistics, is a fascinating field.

It was a 'trap' question.

Top of the class Tricky.

Good to see you didn't fall for it. Now let's see if the other fellow does.
