I did a comparison between the Bricasti M7 (HW) files that were placed a few years ago on GS, and Reverberate w Samplecity's Bricasti. on my system, with my monitoring facilities... I couldn't tell the difference (Large Hall, BTW)

If you use Samplicity's M7 IRs in true stereo mode versus either the signaltonoize M7 IRs or Acousticas M7 (the link is now dead), hopefully you should hear (as I do) a little more depth of character as I think true stereo mode really makes a difference.eytanmich123 wrote:I did a comparison between the Bricasti M7 (HW) files that were placed a few years ago on GS, and Reverberate w Samplecity's Bricasti. on my system, with my monitoring facilities... I didn't compare the IR's. I do have the StN one but once I tried the Samplicity one... it was game over to me.liquidsonics wrote:If you use Samplicity's M7 IRs in true stereo mode versus either the signaltonoize M7 IRs or Acousticas M7 (the link is now dead), hopefully you should hear (as I do) a little more depth of character as I think true stereo mode really makes a difference.
BTW, we tend to hail modulations but having seen an interview with Casey Dowdell, Bricasty's DSP software engineer... I don't know... he seems to kind of "dismiss" it as "myth" claiming the in "real" spaces there are NO modulations...

Indeed a real room is static so modulating an IR (or even really an algorithmic reverb) isn't strictly necessary, but it seems to be an effect a lot of people find adds some depth to their productions. Convolution can sound really static and a bit lifeless, so when you add in true stereo IRs and a little movement either through post-effects or subtle variations in the IR mix, it can help to tackle that problem. It's not going to be the solution for everybody, but I'm glad some people find it helps.eytanmich123 wrote:BTW, we tend to hail modulations but having seen an interview with Casey Dowdell, Bricasty's DSP software engineer... A real room has some movement in the air - even just due to themal effects (eg the warming due to electrical or human heat sources or some surfaces being hotter than others). Warm air would rise to the ceiling and perhaps be cooled by contact with that surface and then sink back to the floor - these sections of the air in the room moving up and down or between inlet and out vents would create many small shifts in the trajectory of audio waves which would accumulate.
This movement could conceivably create some doppler shifting I would have thought - which would alter pitch to some degree for a stationary obsverver or a microphone. In a room with a 60 dB reverb time of 3 seconds sound will have travelled over a kilometer by the time you are getting to the end of the reverb tail.

As requested by a number of people, the browser in the latest release of Reverberate now keeps the previous directory selector visible at all times to speed up directory navigation.

Hi I've released Reverberate 1.8 - headlines are AAX support (32/64 bit), new categorised presets, new graphics (the traditional light with green has been refreshed and there is a new black with neon blue a la Filtrate), almost all parameters can now be text-edited for precise value input and there is a recursive lost file search to help when people move disks or folders around and IRs get lost (or when people want to move the default preset folder off their main disk).

i downloaded and installed and its great. reverberate x64 is my main reverb in my live setup, its shown for a second at the end of the video but you hear it throughout:
since doing the video someone showed me how to make key commands that change reverb preset, fun!
i love the neon blue.
one thing i always wonder, especially since im in minnesota and its still cold, where is the spring? (reverbs)
i use an impulse i got from noisevault i think called great stereo sping and i like it but i always notice there arent any included in reverberate and its something i really like.
that aside it runs smoothly at low latency and super stable, i love it!

Yes I accept there is a bit of a hole with the lack of a spring section. I have struggled to find a good source for IRs in this category. I used to have an old Hammond in my front room with a spring reverb in it but unfortunatey that went years ago! Any ideas welcome, I'd be happy to put together a collection if anybody can sample a spring and donate to the cause
Glad you like the blue theme!
What do you use for making videos? I had been considering doing (either myself or with somebody) a few tutorials.

Hi Matt, if you will excuse the impertinence I'd like to make a couple of suggestions that may improve your product and would certainly make it more tempting for me to purchase.
Firstly, real time sample rate modulation by a random LFO. I don't know whether that would be either technically feasible or desirable but it could possibly help make up some of the advantage that algo reverbs have in 'liveliness'.
Secondly, cross fading between two impulses based on signal level or transient content. The former idea would be nice for a 'Heroes' type of reverb sound with a close miced hall for quiet vocals that opens out into a distant miced hall as the singer lets rip. The latter idea is me riffing a little but it is an option I found use for in an old Roland reverb box-for example adding a general room reverb to a drum group and a gate/plate/ER program to loud snare hits. Granted those are both effects that can be achieved with multiple sends and creative gating but there is a lot to be said for keeping the whole effect as one item-not to mention that there can be more possibilities for controlling the speed of the transition and the amount of the different reverbs blended.

Hi there. Always happy to field new ideas. The first is impractical if recomputation of the IR is needed constantly which I believe it is. Possibly this can be done to some extent using a pitch shifter as in some of the presets that use only the wet chorus mix (though there is only a sine mod here not random). I like the second idea and will give it some thought. I need to study the Sintefex patent though as this starts to look like what is known as 'dynamic convolution' that selects an IR based on input level (as used in the LiquidMix from Focusrite) and I don't want to get caught out here.

Hi Matt,
thanks a lot for the fine update.
I'm using both Reverberate and Core. By adding the free Bricasti Impulses from Samplicity I've got fantastic sounding realistic spaces for Accoustic Jazz and Fusion music. I add Valhalla room to manipulate the sound of some instruments and that's it with respect to reverb for me.
I'd love do get realistic sounding spring reverbs within Reverberate because all spring impulses I found so far were not on par with the other native Reverberate Impulses and the Bricasti stuff.
Thanks again and keep on Reverberating
