One-Synth-Challenge 53: Feldspar - Submissions and gossip

I never knew this was an issue - I'd always assumed that every host can load and save standard .fxp and .fxb files and has some sort of built-in preset browser?

Although I'm not sure what I was thinking when I made Feldspar's banks have only 32 presets! Don't know if I can change that without preventing people from loading banks they've already made.

Indeed Feldspar is amazing !! I cancelled almost all my buys of vst synths this month after trying it (again n more in depth):D

But I don't like the fact that Env 2 is the volume envelope by default and nothing is there to show it at first glace... Then when I managed to understand that, I had to rework all the presets where I used the 2 envelopes as modulation with the matrix.

Another thing I don't like too much are the drop boxes... Since I'm playing notes with my comp keyboard (in Renoise), I have to click the drop box, select, then click somewhere else or my playing will change the selected item according to the touchs I stroke on. Really hard to try all the AM Ring options for example, to hear which one adds the most pleasing grit to a preset. I would have liked to be able to change the values of drop boxes with the mouse wheel.

But I complain, I complain but I forget to thanks the guy behind Contraglogic for setting this pearl free, amazing powerful sound, I've made my best supersaws of my life with this synth, and there is only two oscs !! (ok there is detune and drift but it sounds less impressive to my eyes less impressive than 7 osc unison detune, and when u can do that to four oscs....). I made the most gritty and powerful wobbles of my life, even I have Corona, Harmor, ANA, Sytrus and I tried Massive, Sylenth, Spire, and others.

Also thanks for the quick update, in Renoise there is no multicore bug since all plugs are shelled someway in the memory, but I know if I used another daw it would have been almost impossible to make it run without crashes. But I'm wondering, for those who tried both versions, which one has the less cpu impact ? If is there any difference at all... Because I'm lagging heavily and I'm nowhere in my track yet.

Before that I was doing most of my composition on a 600mhz Windows CE device. (I have a desktop PC but the amount of time I can spend on it anymore is very limited)

How you could make music using something like this??? Which software you used to use?

I'm really curious about it and would love to hear some examples of your work

I thought most DAWs did as well, but of course just learned now Cubase doesn't save Fxb/fxp anymore, and don't know how they load them. I don't know for all other DAWS but was just thinking maybe there's a reason why many synths have their own browser or some sort of preset system. It could of course just be for those who use simple hosts for live use that will probably lack in this area, I don't know.

In Reaper it works anyway like shown below. You can scroll through using either mouse wheel or arrow keys. User presets are listed on top of the list, but exist as Reaper native until you save them as fxp or part of an fxb bank (or as Reaper patch or bank of course)

Which is a VST hoster with presets organization.

Feldspar is listed in the compatible synths with 572 presets

Hey, thanks for expressing some interest in it.

The software I used is called Sunvox --> http://www.warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/

It is a cross-platform tool which runs on just about anything under the sun. Windows, Linux, Mac, Windows CE, Android, iOS, Palm, and several other platforms. The device I used is an NEC Mobilepro 900 which I actually overclocked to 597mhz (stock 400)

All the songs in this set --> https://soundcloud.com/organic-io/sets/sunvox I did those in Sunvox. "Spring Tide" is probably the best of them.
Using this device enabled me to work on the songs during lunchbreaks at work, on the couch at night, etc, places and times that I was previously unable to work on music. After composing, I rendered each synth or sampler out to a separate track and then did the mixing and extra FX in Reaper on the desktop PC.
Also there are a few songs with vocals and "Walled Garden" has an acoustic drum part, I had to add those in Reaper because there is no way the Mobilepro could handle large samples like that (with only 64MB RAM)

Using this actually worked out pretty well for me for a while, but I started to get frustrated with the limitations. But I figure, it's roughly as powerful as a desktop PC from 15 or so years ago, and we were able to write music with computers back then. So why not now???

P.S.... Here's a picture of it that I took last night after I did a little modification to it


(Tracker programs usually have 2.5 octaves mapped to keyboard keys. I needed to replace the J key anyway, so I thought "why not?" and ordered some black keys. This will help me visualize the position of the music keyboard better.

I gather that's similar to white out? I guess it would work, but leave a sticky residue Although I figure you are probably joking anyway. Actually on a previous grey keyboard I tried using metallic markers on top of the keys (gold for the white keys, and silver for the black keys), but it ended up coming off on my fingers. I thought of maybe trying to bleach black keys, but I just did a little search and apparently bleaching doesn't really work on plastic.

There's got to be a way to make this easily available to all... I'm still thinking....

Agreed! Actually I already have a 2 octave MIDI keyboard, but it is still too big to fit in my laptop bag, so I get weird looks when I walk into my office with a keyboard sticking up out of my bag
