antto, can not believe you just said that ... I never own a real tb-303, but multiple emulations (abl2 phoscyon etc.) and i can tell you that none of these emulations brought me the true feeling of programming a real 303 .. . the vb-303 was the only one who managed to emulate it almoust 100% when i try it at first,i had watch some videos on youtube on how to program the real 303, then i thought to myself "how it is possible to be free??,its so close to the real thing!" I can assure you that whoever does not like the vb-303 are people who generally do not want bother to learn how to program the real machine, and probably just use "presets" in their softsynths, or has minimal knowledge in general programming ... I love programming, and I think you should continue to develop vb-303, because there lots of people who agree what I say, and are true professionals, that love music and classic gear, that is just to expensive to get nowdays....antto wrote: i also don't want further promotion or reviews of any kind.. this might sound weird
the people who knew about this plugin have waited during the developement, so they are now already aware of it
many of them didn't understand that the plugin has really drastically changed, now they are very dissapointed about it, it's unusable
so i can imagine if even more people check the plugin - they will only be dissapointed because it's very hard to use (more like, requires a great amount of effort from the user)
so please don't draw any more attention towards the plugin, i will only get more famous in a negative way
thanks
Finally: Venom VB-303 v1.00

Antto:
I support what you are trying to do with this software 100%. So would many others who as yet don't know (or don't understand) what you are doing and why. I wish you had let Beat Magazin do a little promotion for you -- even if it means you will have to become less sensitive to criticism if, as is probable, being better known results in criticism.

Just as a quick FYI, regarding the problems people are having with entering the code for MidiPlay - I have found that if you rotate the knob away from MidiPlay as soon as the VST loads, then rotate it back, the code is accepted first time. It's when you try to enter the code as soon as the VST loads, that it takes a few tries for it to be accepted. That's how it happens on my machine anyway.

Quick question for antto: is there a way to center the tuning knob back to its default position, or do you have to rely on your ear to get it back to standard tuning if it's moved?

I absolutely agree with what sergiofrias said. If I wrote something, I'd be just repeating his words.

A top notch 303 emu has got to be gain,
and I think many of the critical do think it so.
I wish to reiterate that the problem with MIDI input is a bug,
not some intentional diabolical convolution.

yes, there is an easy way to do it in SE with the DD double click resetsharke wrote:Quick question for antto: is there a way to center the tuning knob back to its default position, or do you have to rely on your ear to get it back to standard tuning if it's moved?
module. definitely always a good idea on main 'tune' knobs.
antto, i meant the mapping for the function MIDI note#s. a quick reference
with a button click is maybe better than having to open a pdf? or maybe
just have a button with a link to the pdf (works only if plugin is always
installed to same location, probably)so you work with the manual at hand
until you get used to things.

tuning knob - your DAW must have some way to view the automatable parameters and type-in their values... simply set it to 0.5
the sequencer in vb303 is not quite accurate it turns out
it was based around the idea to try and preserve all spare notes, on top of the TB-303 pattern format, which i can now see is impossible (or very hard to do)
so it's not bad, but needs one more rewrite (again)
every time i rewrite the sequencer - i see another little detail and i wonder if it'll end.. now as i'm writing n0nx0x2 i see many bugs in the code (which i copied from vb303)
so i'll wait till n0nx0x2 is finished, then tested by my 303 experts, and after the code is "good enough" i might copy/paste it back to vb303

Way over my head .I'm a musician not a mathematician.Halma wrote:Well, I guess one reason is that you can't push multiple buttons at once with your mouse & keyboard. But that's only guessing.tomtoo wrote:...

I can only recommend everybody learning the sequencer mode. It's so damn fast and fun.
You could use a 303 pattern chart for your first compositions. With that its pretty damn easy to program your vb. If you do it one by one it works like a charm and becomes second nature after a while.
First set your pattern length. After that all timesettings (gate/tie/rest) until pattern ends. Finally start from the beginning again and program all notes with all accents, slides, up & downs. If you did everything right with your time settings the sequencer will ignore "rested" steps so you could concentrate on programig the right notes.
You have to memorize only a hand full of keys and their position in the upper octave and when to press them (that's the art, pressing the right buttons atthe right time).
After that you are ready to tweak your knobs.
Is it easy? No.
Ist it frustrating? Maybe.
Is it worth it? Hell yeah!
Cheers,
Sebastian
My brain doesn't think naturally with these devices.
I like to jam and feel the groove instead of putting down patterns.
And I still don't know how to use this Venom vst.But I don't think I need too anyway because its not really my thing. That's why antto made it for a specific genre.

Looking at that youtube ,it's obvious you are very intelligent and work that 303 like 2nd nature.I've been staring at the bloody buttons and not knowing how to work that Venom.Doing my head in.But Iguess you can't get those quirky sounds out of it without being a professor at programming.I'm a drummer so I guess that's why I don't get it lol.I can drum to a very good level an have played drums for over 40 years in sessions and other various bands but when it comes to something like programming a 303.I get bloody lost.Drumming to me is very soothing. You just play and jam and make up things as you go along. It doesn't equire math work or deliberate planning lol.antto wrote:sharke: surely sometimes it doesn't accept the code - that's really a bug which was not intended, it annoys me too, i looked thru it and couldn't see why it happens, but i was too lazy to run the debugging setup again, so i left it this way
there will not be a payware version, it's free
see i had my own workflow in my DAW too, i made some specific style of tracks (good or bad doesn't matter)
now with this sequencer - it totally changed my workflow, and i make totally different style of tracks
i first start with the 303 line(s) and build on top, not the other way around
again, whether that's good or bad is subjective
the fact is - i like it and i don't lose anything
i can make tracks like i did before, or go this new route which i'm liking as well
i had much more trouble when i had the x0xb0x in the beginning without any kind of sync to the computer, i had to pre-record the x0x line to wav, then build the track around it, to find that the pattern wasn't ideal and start over again
Eleventh: 1152x864 or something like that
if it resets when you press Play in the daw - that's very bad, it's rebooting the whole plugin
i haven't promised anything, it's what it is, it's not your only option you know ;]
now as i rewrote n0nx0x, i see that the sequencer in the VB-303 has a big flaw in the internal pattern format, i limited n0nx0x all the ways the real thing is limited to, including the octave range - and i like that even more actually
anyway.. i got some good progress with n0nx0x and ideas about Track-Record and Pattern-Record mode
You just feel the groove from your soul and your heart.
Like when jamming out some notes on a midi keyboard.

Mr. Smasha, the beauty of TB is in its sequencer and its hard programmability. The thing is, it can be a really creative tool that leads you into an unexplored territory.
For example, I sometimes start with it, build up some sounds, and then cut it off. It has done its job of moving me into the right direction.
It's different. And that's great. It can open different doors.

Deja vu.... like the old 303, little bit underestimated (because the alienscifi sequencer programing) mostly by guitarists,,,,,,,said thats unusable toy
and after the ACID magic.... we cant take one in a price of an a MS20
General purpose ACID setings
TM3 - 58
RES BOOST - 9.13
DC Click - 100
if you want pure midi tuning of OSC
TM4 - 43
TM5 - 32
The Click on note starts more like X0X (louder than the old 303) ithink.
Or just i cant tuned rightly or misunderstand the DC Click be gone setting.
if we set the values above, we can achieve a very nice 303 sound. Dont bug me if you dont like that tuning, just try set up yours to your taste.

Got out the manual again and just didn't understand all the gobbledeegook.
Anyway my idea of a dream bass is Chris Squire doing a session and bringing his bass sound from the Fragile album.
Now that is BASS!
