Hi all you knowledgeable peeps!
Just wondering if you could enlighten me about the diffs between the two? Also any benefits one might have over the other, and general opinions are welcome of course!
Cheers :tu:

SynthMaker/FL Synthmaker is discontinued.

Flowstone is the new product taking over after Synthmaker.

also flowstone is available in FL11

Cool, thanks for the replies guys!

You can compile VSTs & executables with the full version of Flowstone, FLFlowstone can compile FL instruments only. Also there are nice sync modules to Fruity's tempo in FLFS.
Hope you enjoy the program
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

- and you get robotics (despite whether you need it)
- and you have to pay a yearly fee to get the updates.

But OTOH,
- ruby script language is integrated (I leave it to you whether this is a great idea or not, in my opinion NOT (would have preferred lua integration))
- there is a free version which you can use to construct instruments
- and you can buy "export credits" to create the final instruments.

Disclaimer: a pretty pissed Synthmaker owner here ... :hihi:

Well my interest in Flowstone has been piqued by trying out this new synth call ARC 5 by Archetype Instruments. I thought it was a cool concept for a synth, 5 different synth methods and a minimalist user interface, so I downloaded the demo and was very pleasantly surprised! Usually I expect newcomer synths to be meh, even if they do quite sound good, it's all been done before, bring something new to the table please...
And for me ARC5 I kinda went..."wha?..VA, Supersaw, FM, WaveGuide/Physical Modelling, and HardSync...this is a lot of fun, and it doesn't sound half bad!"
And only later i discovered it was made with Flowstone, and i have to admit i'm a synth snob here, it's C++ or bust. So i was doubly intrigued. I never went near Synthmaker, and I have probably max 5 SynthEdit plugs. Soundwise i would have sworn ARC5 was coded natively from the ground up, but i suppose a framework like Flowstone allows you to dig in and get your hands dirty, and it really shows in this synth.

Flowstone looks like a monster, coding your own industrial robotics control apps could be a fun pasttime. Wow! The rental business model seems a little odd to me, but i'm gonna keep my eye on FS, it might be a fun app to get into sometime.

since when does a programming language have a "sound" ?

SE is written in C++
SM/FlowStone probably as well

you must have some out-of-this-world hearing  :hail:
It doesn't matter how it sounds..
..as long as it has BASS and it's LOUD!

You can even write ASM code in synthmaker/flowstone and the later now has ruby scripting languange included.

But as I wrote above there is also a free version which you could use to test/try/create instruments/effects with and only later buy a few credits to export them as a VST(i).

Try it, maybe it suits you.

And to the SE vs. not SE discussion. You can also use SE as merely an SDK and code the modules yourself -> create stunning instruments as the OP-X (II) with it...

Only drawback is the currently - in beta - lacking 64bit support of SE ...

Yeah, but does it come for free. As I understand you need to sign up for some sort of paid subscription to use it?

Image-Line FL Synthmaker (FLowstone) included in producer & signature editions :

http://www.image-line.com/help/help.htm ... hmaker.htm
While FL SynthMaker allows you to create and share instruments and effects within the FL Studio environment, if you want to take pity on people without FL Studio (or even sell VST plugins to people), using other DAW software, you can upgrade to SynthMaker Pro and export your projects to VST format. FL Studio Producer Edition (or higher) customers can get discount upgrade pricing in our shop

I got FL Signature edition, have just upgraded to FL11.

However, when I am logged into my Image Line account, and go to the shop, I'm told that I can upgrade to FlowStone for $199
This upgrade will turn your FL Studio Synthmaker/Flowstone into a full version of FlowStone which will allow you to create VSTs and EXE's of your FL Studio Flowstone plugin projects.
This purchase comes with 12 months update support from DSP Robotics (creators of this Flowstone software) included too.

Only available for owners of FL Studio Producer Edition.
Downloadable Version Only.
So I doesn't look like it is included in FL11, if you are not prepared to pay for it?

Flowstone fruity only edition (you can run instruments/effects in it and possibly also create fruity only instruments/effects with it) is included with producer/signature; however you will not be able to export your creations as VST(i). If you decide to walk this way, I think their credit system suits you best... http://www.dsprobotics.com/buycredits.php

 Funny boy!
You know very well what i mean...i'm referring to the "SynthEdit synths all sound the same" mindset. Of course coding your own modules instead of using the stock ones will result in a different sounding synth, within whichever framework you choose, SynthEdit, SynthMaker, Reaktor etc.

A good example is Monark vs 'the usual Reaktor synths'. Or as paulbreeze mentioned above OP-X, there was a Reaktor version of it too IIRC.

I'm not a programmer in any way shape or form, so I just used C++ as an umbrella example for 'not using stock modules'. I was not singling out C++ as 'the only viable coding language for audio'. I'd think that was pretty obvious.
Sorry if it got lost in translation!
And BTW, my hearing is pretty good
