Hi. I have a midi controller keyboard that has no wheels. I'd rather not spend hundreds just to get a 25 key+ keyboard with modwheel.

Is there any USB modwheel and maybe pitch wheel stand alone units out there? If not, I guess a joystick could act as a modhweel...but I don't want to use a gaming one (too bulky).

Any help is great :)

I did a bunch of searches and could only come up with Doepfer's DIY stuff which is a mod and pitch bend ready to solder up to a midi controller pcb circuit board that accepts about 4 devices you can solder to it. Then you'd have to build the case for all of it and for the price when done, you might as well just buy a 25 key with PB and Mod wheels, rotary encoders, etc for around $99.

Lots of others in the past looking for same type of thing, but no such device exists pre-built as standalone.

If you're not set on an actual mod wheel then maybe one of the cheap controllers with an xy pad (korg nanopad?)

In fact, if you have a laptop (or usb touchpad) then something like touchpad2midi could be usefull?

Reaper supports midi learn on joypads, I got a Logitech pad with
dual joysticks, 4 triggers, four buttons, a four-direction button,
and three other buttons. It is great fun to trigger and control
your midi instruments. It sits nicely on your leg, or can be taped,
to the leg, or keyboard. There is a thread on the reaper forum,
back when support came out years ago, for details.
Cheers
