And what does "inter-app-audio" bring this time?

Not very much has been revealed yet other than the ability to stream audio between apps and have another app take in all of that audio. A rumor suggests a type of plug-in architecture allowing you to purchase effect apps and synth apps for use inside of another app (like a DAW) that has implemented this new capability.
Would love to know more about this.

I think that rumor has to do with people being confused about Audio Units. There are AU plugins, just as there are VST plugins, but Audio Units also have to do with low level behind the scenes audio processing that is unrelated to any sort of plug in architecture. But who knows what will happen....?iPlogger wrote:Not very much has been revealed yet other than the ability to stream audio between apps and have another app take in all of that audio. A lot of speculatation about what this will mean for AB- the devs have made a couple of vague comments about that, but again, no one seems to really know.
An article over at CDM mentions that there is more information from Apple on inter app audio available, and it is accessible to the public, not only developers.

There was a quite informative discussion on this on Discchord's blog

Though it may have moved to a later page by the time you get there.......

There was also some murmuring about controlling midi.
Not to mention "Facetime audio"... Facetime audio? It's Facetime without the video. [facepalm]
Hmmm.

Great link posted. So we can assume the easy road is Garageband will host iAudioUnit instruments. Awesome. So one thing I am very curious about- and could be very cool- is if you could take an iPad and treat it like a processing core- where you can load up a massive instrument that is dedicated to the iPad (say Animoog on steroids, or a 16/32/64/128GB sample playback instrument)- and then, with near zero latency, use Logic to host and record them- maybe even wirelessly. Imagine something like Omnisphere running full steam on a new top end iPad- with all resources tweaked to just handle Omni- and then get near zero transfer back to Logic/Mainstage/Cubase/etc- wired, or, Facetime audio wirelessly??

Ummm, audio calls over Wi-Fi doesn't strike you as a stab in the heart of the carriers' cellular monopoly, and a point-of-attack against their insane fee structures???martygras wrote:There was also some murmuring about controlling midi.

"A stab in the heart"? Carriers don't have a heart.
I guess I don't have a problem paying for a service that allows me to access just about anything from anywhere at anytime.
Sure it's a little pricey, but I've waited my whole life to get to this "space age" of technology and I'm going to take full advantage of it before I'm too old to understand anything.
Remember, Facetime still has to be used over WiFi.
