Always. I never touched those strange looking knobs.

But to rule you must first create a sound never before heard by human ears...from scratch...using one ping only

see that cat isn't using fishstick presets, it's making its own.

Speaking of fish...why no fish option in the poll? What's happening with this place? What kind of poll here misses fish?

1-2-Many wrote:A. It did have to do with the discussion, but in a general non-specific way (not addressed to any particular person)

B. It did apply to the subject, as people typically fall into 3 categories on this topic, with the first typically being judgmental and elitists ... and often deluded that THEY are making sounds no one has heard or made before, and that somehow their self rolled sounds make their music stand out.

C. I've read too many of these topics to need to read 18 pages to find out what people are discussing...again.

If the shoe doesn't fit don't get mad at me because you tried it on and it hurt your foot....Rather consider why you thought your foot belonged in that shoe.
this is a cute way to avoid direct engagement with a person but have a bash at them by this reckless generalization.

your shoe is some bullshit. you're put off by the mere idea someone can do some shit you can't do. so you have to pose this as a delusion, or toss in this vapid word 'elitism'. all you reveal to us is some resentment.
Hi Jan - nice to see you're still keeping your screenname ironic

...and I CAN do shit, I just don't get all obsessive about my shit, or call others inferior who don't choose to shit in a "professional" way.
glad to see you're keeping up with the sharp wit! :tu:
who called someone inferior or pointed to 'professionalism' here? I'm replying to particular things you said. You won't restrict yourself to that, you invent things to have a go at.

I'm a presets user when it's the most suitable way to go. I have no need to state "I start from scratch", it doesn't occur to me that would be an impressive statement. Some people aren't interested in synthesis to that extent and it takes all kinds to spin the globe on its axis.

You're the person bashing people here. You made a shoe to fit a straw man. elitist and deluded he is! Your words quoted there is someone looking for a fight, but at the same time you need to frame it as though it will look like something else. I call bullshit. Calling bullshit is uncivil! Good for you.

You should get out more. if you think all the sounds have been heard before, that's your narrowness, not the world's.

Inventing? Really?
The following snippets are merely from pages 1-4 of this thread:
That's what I don't like about presets, to have a sound that 1000 other Joe's can have too…

it just seems lame to hold down a note on someone else's ambient widget patch and repeat until you've got a soundscape.

....but ultimately an elctronic musician should strive to know how to use at least one synth inside out (the synth is one of the core instruments of an electronic musician) ...unless he plans to make shitty generalistic edm ala avcii or just be a keayboard player.

an electronic musician who doesn't try and push boundaries synthwise is not worth listening .

imo preset culture is the cancer of modern electronic music .

I would say that if you want to call yourself a talented or gifted musician, then you better make your own sounds.
No Straw man here, nothing invented...For plenty more statements like these just continue reading from page 5, I'm sure there's more.
Did I make generalizations when I popped in at page 18? Yes.
Were those generalizations correct? Yes, at least up to page 4.
Is there a straw man? No.

Your logic is astounding...who's bashing other people? I directed my criticisms in general, and left room that there are decent people in the category that breeds the snobs.
The most I did to 'bash" anyone else was call you uncivil (because you were and are being so), yet you have said of me the following:
I'm being "cute"
I avoid direct engagment with people
I make "Reckless Generalizations"
I'm being disingenuous, just looking for a fight
My summation of this thread is Bullshit
I'm talentless, and resentful
I invent things to have a go at
I should get out more
I am narrow

Care to try on that shoe?

Moral #1: Whenever a person's ideals impose restrictions on their behavior it's hard not to become a self righteous prick and preach to, or become judgey of, those more free of self imposed restrictions.
^^^To discuss exactly what I said (as Jancivil suggested), it was the above statement that sparked things off.

tanabarbier took it as an personal attack and hurled it back at me, out of context, inferring that I was a "self righteous prick". When another poster called him on it he explained that my statement was an insult and a "direct attack" on him, and called it "childlike", and "out of line". Seriously!?

WOW! And somehow I'm bashing him because I respond by politely, (yes, and maybe too cutely) pointing out the error of his personal reaction to a generalized statement with my "If the shoe fits" theme?

To which he responds in a reducto ad absurdum post that doesn't need repeating

At which point I again respond a little more heavily (i.e. resort to A, B,C) to show that nothing he said within his reducto post was correct...all politely mind you

At which point Jancivil jumps in to call me out on my generalized bullshit shoe argument as a cloak for bashing others... by making generalized bashing statements and assumptions about my deficits ... and generalizing about what I said ... Maybe the A,B,C was the condescending straw for him. I don't know what set him off.

I think it's a pretty valid observation on human behavior (moral#1), don't see why panties are getting all twisted over it
