That is ok.
If your old stuff is the same as your new stuff, then your attitude makes sense.
I am talking about a musical development here that spans over a quarter of a century.
It really is not a competition.
Not who is the best.
Not who has been going longest.
Not who has the most ambition.
Maybe who has the most time.
You see. It is valuable to me because I am a musical schizophrenic.
"Oh you play jazz piano, let's hear some".
God what an embarrassing experience.
How they laughed. When I sat down at the keys.
Then I played the recording I had to some guy that used to play in Talk Talk, and he said, oh, that sounds like Weather Report. Never heard of them at the time. He compared not just my keyboard playing but my production including drum programming to Joe Zawinul. But I don't tell people that I play jazz piano any more. Saves embarrassment on both parts.
It depends how long you have been going. I have pretty much gone as far as I can on my musical journey and a lot of my best days are behind me. That is why I need to move forward. But that is why I need to factor in the past too. It's my legacy.
I would never think less of anyone for saying: Chuck it all in the bin. Let's make a track.
But I would also respect those that want to use the important musical bits from their life, that just got lost for what ever reason. If they can find them. We have the ability to make them so much more than museum pieces. We can bring them alive with the technology that we have.
