For people that use Sonar X2, the upgrade from X1 Studio at this price is a good deal?
X2 is sufficiently stable? The new features worth the money?

Post

No from me and the they haven't updated it since december of last year.

But try the demo. AFAIK, you can run both that an X1

Post

Stable, for me yes. Worth the extra features (additional pro channel stuff, ye, I guess)... overall hmm, not sure (it's not my main DAW though so take my opinion with a bag of salt). As hibs said, try the demo and see.

The demo is too big. I don't want to mess with my new PC :hihi:

Congrats on the new PC. I got the same email and I passed. At one point Sonar was my main DAW the new features look worth while but until they fix the issues with loop recording while Reason is rewired to it I just can't see myself using Sonar again. I do like the DAW but that is one thing I cannot deal with. Also it doesn't like my Balance audio interface and I am not buying a new interface just because of Sonar when the interface I have now is barely a year old and works perfectly fine. Those were the things that kept me from going to X2 in the first place anyway.

so far so good with me

I installed the demo.

The 32 bit bridge seems to be much better on X2. No clicks with synthedit stuff.
The automation lanes works fine to.

X2 is certainly a big improvement over X1, and Producers is worth the premium over Studio. Pro channel, breverb, and R-Mix are all interesting. I have kind of moved away from Sonar over the past month after many years, but it wasn't because Sonar was unstable or going downhill, more that features I really wanted were elsewhere.

FWIW, BitBridge is identical to the one installed with X1. Last change to BitBridge was in 2009. I do prefer X2 over X1 though.

I used X1 and X2 demo side by side. Synthedit plugins works well on X2 but in X1 I get glitches.

I am not denying the results you are getting just the assumption that it is due to changes in the BitBridge. There have been no changes to the Bitbridge software in years. Moreover, the BitBridge software is located in the "Shared Utilities" folder so there is only one copy installed for all versions of SONAR on your machine.

I got sick of the difficulties setting up midi automation, especially for effects. And as a major U-He user, SONAR is a total fail. U-He software has major issues, but only with SONAR. After using Cake software for many many years, I'm switching to Cubase.

After x1 I switched to studio 1, does what I need and is much more stable; I'm hanging off cake as I get the impression they're more marketing driven these days, but you should try demo

Based on recent version history of Sonar:

Sonar 8 October 2008
Sonar X1 December 2010
Sonar X2 September 2012

Looks like Sonar X3 will be shipped in a year or so, so then again users will need to bring their upgrade dollar to the table to stay up to date.

Too frequent for my taste.

I don't know if this deal is still good of if the OP is still interested. I see you installed the demo. I'm happy to hear it, I know it was big :hihi:

@updates: This has been a particularly bad cycle It's been december since a patch and I personally don't believe the product is THAT good that it doesn't need one. I'd be a little concerned.
