My take is: if you're just using mastering plugins (free), effectively the same way you could on the master track, it's fine... no chopping the wave or anything (unless there's just some dead silence or something).bjporter wrote:Depends what you are doing... but it sounds as if you are importing a Wav file? If you go that route, I think you would have to apply your mastering tools to the final master track of your mix, since you can't apply FX to any output.LunaTech wrote:One last question. Is mastering in Audacity acceptable?

Hey sunhome, it looks like we have a miscommunication. I was stating that if in fact we can take our wav file and master it, then I'm excited.sunhome wrote:Bjporter what does audacity have better than your daw for mastering ?
I use Cubase, so that works too.
Enjoy the day man, how's the weather? Here it was raining hard now sunny, so going to go outside soon.

Yes don't see why not either, even if it's just to access Pro Tools or some other editor to get at their effects (which would be a bit naughty tbh). What do others think? Still don't understand why you can't master in the original DAW though..

V'ger can you add rules to elaborate on mastering? I was strict with rules so I never ever touched the audio once it was rendered, so perhaps you could clear it up.V'ger wrote:Yes don't see why not either, even if it's just to access Pro Tools or some other editor to get at their effects (which would be a bit naughty tbh). I guess I asked a good question. ('8)') ('

What is the structural integrity of a compound when it is broken down to its wave form?
The same as everything else that surrounds it.

BJ, I noticed your saying. When you listen to the track, please tell me where your space travels take you. I mean it has some 'Space Odyssey" potential.
Thanks.
I'm not going to upload it until we get a response on the use of Audacity for mastering.
Thanks.

V'ger agreed there's no problem... at least, if the plugs are all freely available, to be on the safe side.LunaTech wrote:BJ, I noticed your saying. When you listen to the track, please tell me where your space travels take you. I mean it has some 'Space Odyssey" potential.

Agree, not sure what Audacity would buy anyone over just using the master track... but I think it's fine. I would vote no on commercial mastering apps though: think things like stand alone mastering progs might get introduced, which borders the 'using commercial plugins' IMO.V'ger wrote:Yes don't see why not either, even if it's just to access Pro Tools or some other editor to get at their effects (which would be a bit naughty tbh). I'm wondering if anyone downloaded the banks for Feldspar from the Contralogic site? I have a bank in there from way back in the day when Contralogic gave out Feldspar to those willing to program a bank of presets and send it to him.
I also remember that Jackson (one of the preset programmers) did a very cool demo tune called 'duckbill' or something like that when Contralogic released Feldspar and the effects only version.
