Hey guys,

The feedback you gave me from the first devlog video I posted about the upcoming BeatCleaver 1.4 was incredibly useful, so I hope you don't mind if I post a new one that I made yesterday:

In the video, I show the progress I've made since the last video, which builds on some of your suggestions:

There's a new Gain edit, which gives you a little slider to adjust.
A Duplicate edit so you can move slices around (!). I show how to use this to make a quick variation on a beat in the video.
Basic slicing->Edit Mode integration, where the slices act as a grid that edits can snap to.
Lastly, I talk quickly about some of your other suggestions near the end!

As I was making the video, it occurred to me that it might solve a few of the design problems if I make it so that edits can be grouped in a container. Eg. if you right-click on a "Duplicate" edit, you should be able to click "Reverse", which would then reverse that duplicated segment of audio. (Each edit would become a hierarchy with subedits.) That might sound confusing on paper, but I think that approach is going work out so layering edits becomes way more intuitive and works the way you expect it to. (I could be wrong though, I'm just going to have to try it and see...)

Anyways, I'm always looking for feedback

so please share your thoughts on what you're seeing!

Hi - we chatted a bit by email; really like BeatCleaver but I think the demo mode is a bit limiting; be nice to be able to export the slices as I am unsure of the fit it my workflow due to the restriction. IMO a 30 day trial works best. Also, need to test is the file naming abilities of the slices when I would be importing them into my next tool.

That said, BeatCleaver is a nifty tool as it seems so much faster and focused than some competitors. My needs are a bit different from your typical user, as i am dealing with 3:00 minute segments of recorded synth material.

It all looks nicely implemented and well thought out so far, and the grouped edits idea seems perfectly intuitive to me. I'd love to see slice to midi and warping at some point too.

Also is there anyway we can chop samples using the qwerty keyboard instead of midi controller?

One final question, Could Beatcleaver could become a Vst? this would be awesome!

Sorry it's kinda hard to find, but if you scroll down to the bottom of the downloads page, registered users can download the latest version there. You can also hit the download link in your registration email and it'll always download the latest version.

You can preview slices with the 1-9 number keys on your keyboard and if you hit "S" during playback, it'll slice at the current playback position. (Is that what you meant?)

I hope so.

We'll see how long it takes to get 1.4 out the door but there's a good chance making a VST version will be my next top priority after that.

Hey James, when you export slices, it names them like "myfile_1.wav", "myfile_2.wav", etc. What's your workflow now like? (Are you chopping out different notes of your synth recordings?)

Yes that's exactly what I meant, one more before I go,please if you do make the vst version, please,please,please allow drag n drop to our 3rd party samplers like Kontakt or Maschine,this would be sick!!!
