I had the upgrade opportunity also and it was just too many sounds to pass on. I've been using it for several days now and I'm having none of the problems people here are complaining about (Mac). Don't know if it's a mac thing or a luck thing.

Just wanted to note that since the release of the new Arturia minilab controllers, the older full-size controllers have been much reduced. Even locally:
"Arturia is updating models. We have several 61 key Analog Experience 'The Laboratory" MIDI controllers priced to move at $339.00. These are brand new "in the box" and have full warranty."
Amazon has the same for $377 (free shipping).

I asked this too on page 2.libertychap wrote:For anyone that has a Minilab - How is the actual hardware rather than the software?
I want to get one to use as a preset maker for RP Predator because it has 16 rotary encoders, but I don't want to buy it if the hardware is shitty.
Apparently you are only allowed to talk about the software and its flaws, but cannot comment on the hardware. Maybe a TOS thing....

SEM V sounds good. I like it too.aMUSEd wrote:Yes I'm pleasantly surprised by the sound quality - I knew I liked the SEM and Prophet but even the earlier ones that a lot of people diss actually sound very nice - I particularly like the CS80 and Arp. I'd like to like the Jupiter too but unfortunately whenever I run through the presets for that it crashes after a few - seems quite unstable that one. I do agree it is pretty buggy though at the moment but the sound quality is making me want to try some of the others now.DHR53 wrote:Geez, I really can't believe anyone would listen to this plugin and say that? Analog Factory has some of MY favorite sounds. Analog Lab adds some of the new instruments like SEM and a lot more presets. Personally, I hear a LOT of songs in there.
It has a specific sonic signature that one can like or not. But thin plastic etc etc

Picked it up for 25 in their sale thingy and my experience hasn't been great so far. It has some quality sounds and all that but it crashes a lot. I mean to the point where it's almost unusable for me.
Also has anybody had any problems with a lot of the Jupiter 8V sounds being silent?

Yes, restarting it seems to fix this temporarily and the sounds that were silent do work after that, at least for a while. In my experience the silent sounds are usually a warning sign a crash is occurring (or perhaps has already commenced). It's the Jupiter that seems to be causing most of the crashes for me.libertine1989 wrote:Picked it up for 25 in their sale thingy and my experience hasn't been great so far. yeah, more comments on the hardware would be welcome.Wormhelmet wrote:I asked this too on page 2.libertychap wrote:For anyone that has a Minilab - How is the actual hardware rather than the software?

I own it and I'm aehm, try not to write the word with p and iss and ed
for me it's a mispurchase!
so many bugs in it, not only in the software also in the controller
when I use NI-Maschine and end the programm and then try to start AnalogLab the MiniLab (Controller) didn't send messages to the software
so I've got to restart my PC for using AnalogLab
and when I then quit AnalogLab the software an runtime-error will be prompted every use and AL is in the task-manager for hours
what the hell is going wrong at Arturia???
in the AL itself many sounds have stopping-problems, that means:
I play an sequence with "dirty_lead" (a nice lead for me) and play and play the sequence (no matter if live or via Cubase) suddenly the sound didn't stop
and for this Arturia made a "PANIC"-icon in the GUI, but this doesn't react! nice...
then there are some presets which cause GUI-errors...
then there are some presers where forgotten to adjust the output-level (greetings from your speakers)
and on and on...
unfortunatelly I've made a pre-order and this arrived the same day when I've seen the demo-version, so I was so mad to install directly the original -> problem is that I now can't return the software...99 Euro in the basket

The obvious reason, drama aside, is that many people ahve updated the softwre (or at least demo'd it) but not many people have the minilab hardware.Wormhelmet wrote:I asked this too on page 2.libertychap wrote:For anyone that has a Minilab - How is the actual hardware rather than the software?

I've been really interested in the MiniLab since it was first shown as a mobile controller. First one I've seen with a real modulation and pitchbend. Good amount of knobs too. Even though putting the knobs into absolute mode seems to be what confused some at the start, I'd also like to hear that the controller itself is working well for regular midi uses.

the encoders need many rotations to do their job, that means: turning and turning for some small steps...
not that feeling as on NI-Maschine

The encoders on minilab? What software were you using this with, the Arturia software? I'd like to hear how the minilab encoders work on a non Arturia laboratory vst. Like synth1 for instance...The Sarge! wrote:the encoders need many rotations to do their job, that means: turning and turning for some small steps...

I tried it in Cubase6 with ABL2 as VSTi and it works fine
the only thing that happened twice: deselecting ABL as VSTi in the VSTi-Rack crashes Cubase6 -> never happened before, so there seems to be little trouble with MiniLab + Cubase6 + ABL2

The Sarge!
PS: ABL2 = AudioRealism BassLine 2

I decided to go for the $19 purchase as a Father's Day present for myself, and it is literally unusable. I have tried installing version 1.0 and 1.0.3, neither of which will even open - the system just hangs forever, and starting the Task Manager indicates that Analog Lab is "not responding." I am running a 2-year old Windows 7 system with 8 Gb RAM. This is very frustrating. Has anyone else had trouble even getting the program to run?Echoes in the Attic wrote:Had a play with Analog Lab yesterday and it was nothing but pops and clicks. not even usable. I don't think that happened when I had my fireface plugged in but yesterday I was just using macbook pro built-in sound. Pretty discouraging.

Thanks for the info! I was curious whether the problems seem to be more software only specific, but maybe not just the software. The Sarge! wrote:ok, do you a favourWormhelmet wrote:The encoders on minilab?
