im sure you have heard of a lot of the commercial dance track's that use piano melodies, such as Porter robinson - language, does anyone know what kind of scale/mode these producers commonly use when coming up with simple but effective melodies?

thres plenty more tracks with these kind of melodies, but you get the idea, so does anyone know what scales or modes are being used here, or most commonly used with these kind of melodies? - also, what other musical theory contributes to creating these melodies?
Cheers!

As for what I hear I'd say E for the first song you posted, with the bass going C#, D#, E, and then C#, B, A, wich (to me) makes it a kind of plagal cadence, everything being well sitting in E major.
I would be surprise if the second song was in anything but a major key or it's relatives modes.
What you need is practice, theory, and a lot of both!
Have a good day!

The piano notes in Language,to me, imply F# minor, but the bass line seems to center on D, so it's tough to say for sure what he intended (if he intended anything at all.) I can tell you that there are many talented producers out there that don't really understand the theory behind their music, but they create great stuff anyway.
There's no simple answer to your question, but if you're interested in it, start analyzing tracks that you like and try to understand what they are doing, harmonically.
