Since we don't pay a single cent for a synth that sounds better than 90% of any synths out there, both free and commercial ones, I think we should be grateful, shut up, and make music instead of wasting our time on superficial things such as skin color

I am not saying that the default skin is perfect, but it is already way better than the old, bright red one. One can live with the way it looks now. My vision is not the best anymore, still I have no problem using Charlatan, unlike the OP-X for instance.

Red is not my favourite colour, but I can live with the present skin..
The one request I asked for - a separate noise oscillator - was granted,so that's a real positive...
Charlatan sound fantastic and there's a lot of work gone into coding it..
I'm grateful to the developer for giving us one of the best sounding soft synths out there...
That is really generous of him...
So let's not look a gift horse in the arse...
It might crap on us

anyone who's read the entire thread can tell me if there is a port to OSX planned ever? I miss using this synth. It's a pearler.

Thanks for the FAQ, karrikuh, one thing you have left out though: do you have a 'to do' list for Charlatan? Any additions/improvements waiting to happen, or is it pretty much complete now?karrikuh wrote:I just added an FAQ to the OP, find the answer there...
That would be really good to know.

Ghostwave, how does one get the skin you did?

Well, there was a bit of dll hacking involved.TB4C wrote:Ghostwave, how does one get the skin you did?
To put it simply, I extracted the background with Resource Hacker, modified it and then put it back into the dll and saved it.
The recolouring was just done modifying the hue of the original file. Nothing big about that.
I'd really like to make a skin for Charlatan, like I did for other synths, but will only do it if there's an easy way for the end-user to load it.
Besides, if more functions are added, that means I have to keep my skin updated.
However, since I want to keep working on Charlatan, I'll probably do it anyway ...

I was just following this comment by lazyer:fmr wrote:So, are we now stuck with that red skin? Too bad for me
Gosh fmr, make it green, yellow or pink if you want to. There is a tutorial by me and others earlier in the thread. it's easy.
I know it's a free synth, but I guess I am allowed to say I don't like the original look of Charlatan, no?lazyer wrote:
for those of you in the know, and have become used to my Charlatan modular skin, i have updated the image files for the new v1.4 and uploaded them here:

enjoy! Mad
EDIT: Apparantly the DEV does not want people messing with the gui as he
has incorperated some image scrambler if any tampering is detected with
the images. this mod will only work now on the download with the 804kb zipped file size.
sorry about that. Shrug

Why not just have a resources folder outside the .dll like a lot of plugins have and that would allow people to mod the gui without feeling "dirty" about hacking the .dll ?karrikuh wrote: I love conspiracy theories like thisAs stated in the FAQ, I don't have the slightest problem with reskinning as long as some terms are respected. What I did in the 1.4 release is rewrite the graphics handling code. A side effect is that the plugin now has hard-coded expectations about the color format of each PNG resource. If you want to replace a PNG, you have to make sure that the new one uses the exact same color format as the original (essentially RGB vs. RGBA). If you still have problems, let me know!

Jbravo and ghostwave can you you upload your skin/pngs? I find resource hacker easy enough to use just learned today prob took me under a minute to modify the dll although I'm all for making it easier like zebra.
