New drum machine on the way...request features!

Hi, folks, Dave here from Samplephonics, hope all is fine and well.

We're working on a new drum sequencer for Kontakt, and it would be great to have your input regarding any features you would like to see.

Essentially it's a powerful drum sequencer with a simple and easy to use interface, with the following functionality:

- 16 channels per kit, 2-4000 samples + ability for user to load your own, drum kit presets and groove presets. You can browse through kit and groove presets without loading a new instrument up, and switch samples around from other kits on the fly.
- Table based editing controls for each individual channel and master, including velocity, volume, pitch, pan, filter cutoff/rez, bit crush, envelope (pitch, amp, filter cutoff), lfo (pitch, amp, filter cutoff), grain length and grain speed, stutter speed and stutter length, delay and reverb send amounts.
- Tables can be set to any global resolution, or you can mix resolutions per channel (e.g. 1/16 on one, 1/8t on another etc)
-Swing % control
- Pattern based sequencer, with ability to add custom time signatures, copy and paste whole pattern or just single channels (and undo if necessary). 16 Patterns and up to 8 bars per pattern, depending on your time signature.
- Generative input controls for adding velocity patterns (e.g. add velocity 127 every 4 cells starting on cell 2) as well as standard draw input and +/- controls

The interface will show 8 of the channels at once on the top half, and a larger table for editing effects and processing of specific channels underneath.

If there are any features we've missed out that you would like to see, let me know and I'll see what we can do. And before you ask, no we can't add more cowbell. Thanks in advance!

How about something like a "genre randomizer" ? You get random patterns and sounds, but within the context of a genre. So the "ambient randomizer" will give slow tempo, mellow, longtail sounds, sparse patterns etc.

That could be interesting. It already has a kit and preset browser that I suppose we could add some kind of random functionality to, and limit it to genres. Although for the presets themselves, scrolling through the genres/tempo ranges will be fairly random, so I guess it relates more to the samples themselves. We'll look into it!

Otherwise makes the drum machine useless.

We actually implemented this on our last drum machine for Kontakt, however this one is based on on an internal sequencer within Kontakt, so grooves are stored in tables and arrays rather than midi. However, I suppose we could also include backup midi files of the groove presets, but you wouldn't be able to create new grooves as Kontakt cannot actually create new midi files, it can only rearrange existing ones. Drag to midi simply works be reading an existing folder of midi files. The other issue would be that we might not be able to implement the on board table effects in the sequencer within the midi files, which are integral to the groove presets..... at least I don't think so, although it might be doable so will look into it, would be useful if we could.

Not everyone likes to work with patterns I know, so might be nice to have these as a back up. Would anyone else like to see a midi library as well as the on board sequencer?

We should also probably have mentioned that this isn't a live drum kit...although there are some acoustic sounds in there, it's predominantly an electronic style kit capable of glitchy, complex rhythms...more robot than human if you like
