does anyone know if:
1. an ipad 4 32GB can power a midi fighter 3D without a usb hub? (i know i'll need an apple camera connection kit)
and 2. any app that supports midi in/out should be able to communicate with it, right?
thanks!

Specs say it needs a full power usb port- so that would mean no in my mind. Also, isn't there apps that can do the same functions on the iPad anyways?

there are apps indeed, but im actually looking for hardware now. ive been finger drumming on beatmaker 2, and a few others, and hitting glass for hours begins to take a toll on my finger tips. thanks for the help. im fairly new to the world of midi... i should be able to map out the midi fighter 3d to any app that supports midi in/out or midi learn, right?

You can either use a presonus audiobox or the like if it has midi in/out or you could use a powered hubnivrammi wrote:there are apps indeed, but im actually looking for hardware now. ive been finger drumming on beatmaker 2, and a few others, and hitting glass for hours begins to take a toll on my finger tips. thanks for the help. im fairly new to the world of midi... i should be able to map out the midi fighter 3d to any app that supports midi in/out or midi learn, right?

I depends if the midi fighter 3d is class compliant. If so, it does not need to install a driver and will natively work with a powered hub or my suggestions above.nivrammi wrote:does anyone know if:

If not class compliant, then no. Unless you could use wifi MIDI to control it from the ipad to the computer.
Here is a lo-fi suggestion:
Why not use a physical keyboard (not the musical one - although many of those have drum pads as well) to drum with? The keys are a bit like the fighter pad's buttons and Bluetooth would work just fine. The there are tiny devices like the korg and akai drum pads. Those may work as well and are much less expensive.

the new 'Launchpad S' might be a decent shout. Class compliant and lower power so doesnt even need a powered usb hub, just a CCK. Doesnt help you with your midi fighter though if you already have one.
