Brian,

I cannot express my thanks to you just with words. You are the one who spotted and informed me about my possible mistakes in OSC 52. I have therefore withdrawn my entry, voluntarily. And thanks again for the guidance that shows on how to upload songs.

Cheers,
g7

evo2slo wrote:Suggestion: What if for OSC there were only two sticky threads - Submission/Voting and Discussion.

Submission/Voting would be only for the submission and description of an entry. Then at voting time it would become the voting thread, only for voters to indicate that they have voted. I would prefer this because it would be nice to be able to scroll through the submission thread while listening to entries to see the plugins used, instances, personal notes, stories, etc. that often accompany submissions. As is the actual submissions get lost amongst all the questions and discussion.

Discussion could possibly be merged with the current general discussion thread and would be for questions, suggestions, reviews, comments, tutorials, etc. Would be much easier to stay up to date with what's going on if everything was consolidated within one sticky thread for this, as opposed to scattered between three different threads. Might make things easier for the hard working mods as well.

:)
Yes that's sort of how it's done in the Music Cafe competition isn't it. I will note this down and include in the next rules poll (whenever that will be).

(although a tip for now is to use the thread's 'printable view' mode (look for it bottom left on page) as you get so many more posts on one page and can more easily find stuff with ctrl-F etc)

Thanks V'ger. Nice tip - never noticed that feature before. Brought 23 Podolski submission pages down to 4. Much more manageable. 8)

Friends and co-conspirators,

right now I am listening to those Podolski tracks that got zero points and I am blown away by their sheer quality! Some of those sound like everybody's rank six to ten like for instance Hienergy - Thematische Arbeit Mit Podolski, my number six. There are two more from my personal top ten.

Imho we should consider a voting test: Like others have already suggested let's vote on every track on a one to five point basis. I don't think this will deter anybody from voting. Remember the rules. No vote no winner :). I think we should try this system at least once.

What do you think?

I'm still thinking that a vote from 1 to 5 points to ALL tracks, would be the best way to go.

All participants deserve at least one point for participating, and another point to not get bored with the track.
All the rest points, to me, would be, feeling factor, hardwork/complexity/composition and overall mastering.

I will vote yes for points for all tracks when poll.
We have to try it at least.

Have a nice day :)

Agreed ;)

You should normally listen to all submitted tracks anyway so giving a mark while doing so doesn't sound like too much hassle...right? :)

So basically it's like reviewing each track? Out of 5 stars kind of like a movie review?

I'm thinking if we go this route, that statistically the more songs there are the more chance of several ties in each round, is that correct? Any math nerds here? This may complicate V'ger a bit :hihi: :hihi:

So less songs submitted less chance of ties... ? I'm wondering what curve function this is.

It is not the same stadistics at all that's for sure, i know, but in case of tie, we always can use the trick of numbers of 5 stars, 4 stars and so on for the people with same results.
And in extremis we of course make a second little voting only for participants with same results.

Just we have to have in mind to try not being too much extreme when voting. I mean, sometimes i see people who likes any video or music, and only for being fan of it, they drop an easy 5 points.
Always that i have to make a score in any other theme, i try to be the most realistic possible. The 5 stars is only for the outstanding ones.

Have a nice day :)

I think this is a good idea :)

Many tracks I didn't vote for but I wanted to give them points.

That is the only "problem" I see.

Well if someone drops 5 points to every track that's fine since everyone get's bumped up +5 :hihi:

What about a 0-5 scale?

Looks like the FAQ page ( https://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/faq ) still displays old rules stuff:
How do I vote?
Check the voting thread in the forum for how many points you can give, then write your vote as a post
in the same thread.
or
Can I vote even if I am not entered?
Yes, voting is open to all, but you need to have 20 posts at KVR forum before the start of the competition period.

I really think the current form (maybe with stars/radio buttons to click instead of the drop-down - wasn't it a drop down?) would be best. Must vote for at least 5 tracks, can vote for as many as you feel deserve points. In honesty, I don't necessarily believe all tracks deserve points despite the trouble of submitting an entry.... so a no-response is effectively a 0. I also feel some months multiple tracks deserve the top spot, so this would allow for more subjective voting.

Also, would be awesome to have some sort of voting system built right into SoundCloud or wherever the tracks live...

I could possibly program something like that unless there's a better coder out there.

It would seem easy - just have all track displayed on one or optionally paged - and put a star rating next to it. At the bottom a nice submit button, which sends info to the Google doc.
