I don't know if anyone here has ever tried it (I did a quick search and couldn't see any results), but I recently tried out Reverbnation's peer review service, as the basic service was on offer at $9.95.

I submitted probably my favourite track, which is essentially an ambient/chillout tune. The process is that they ask 20 people to review it and provide you with the full text of their reviews along with a tag cloud generated by the reviewers and an overall score out of 10.

For anyone interested, this was the track that I submitted:

My reviews were delivered yesterday along with an overall score of 6.1/10 which I was pretty pleased with.

The reviews were mixed, which you would expect given the final score, but I was quite pleased with some of the reviews. Some were very negative, but from the text showed that the reviewer wasn't a fan of the genre, such as this one:
Wow there is barely anything to the melody of this music. There is no excitement or diversity in the rhythm. So it's really bad in my opinion. I think that music should always consist of lyrics and a steady beat. Not something that is slow and boring like this is. I don't know why people would submit something like this for a review or anything because there's really no point to it.
Others were far more positive, such as this one:
Okay it took me a while to figure out what kind of song this was. I like in the beginning with the intro and how the instruments came in. This wasn't bad at all. I can even see this being played in a movie or something. Even the vocals kind of brought a connection with it. Then in the end with what sounded like water against the shore was peaceful. This was an amazing song!
and this one:
Very much atmospheric. It is extremely relaxing. Makes me feel like I am in a relaxed state after a hard day. Like I am floating. The quality and mix is very well. I could listen to this song before I go to bed and fall asleep easy or on a dark night just driving around. This is really beautiful. There are many different elements I love about this. The electronic beat and the guitar are perfect. This does not need vocals. I hope this blows up big. I am recommending my friends listen to this and I want to download it.
and one more:
The intro is very soft, sort of puts you in a trance. However, it is beautiful. I love chillstep like music because of its relaxing property. Just listening to the beginning of this song made me instantly feel more relaxed. i seriously love the all electronics aspect of this beautiful piece. I think it will be a big hit for those chillstep lovers! Lastly, the rhythm is nice and soft and the tempo is soft. The drums and bass that kick in later really add in an interesting element into the song. I seriously really enjoyed listening to this amazing track.
I think it's a shame that Reverbnation don't target reviewers more closely connected to the genre of the original track. Presumably they keep to Electronica artists, but it's a massive genre and chillout/ambient doesn't appeal to everyone. However, I was quite pleased with the length of the reviews supplied. I'm not sure I'd do it again, as the regular price is $24.95, which doesn't seem as good a deal.
