OK, and then they lower the price to $99, and if this sale doesn't catch on, then instead of Reaktor 6, the next thing we would be looking at is discontinuation?

Seeing how quickly they shelved Kore, why would they keep Reaktor going if it doesn't make enough money for them?

Recognize that they do use Reaktor themselves to create other products (as well as for internal prototyping, no doubt).

NI last year expanded and hired several people in several different countries to work exclusively with Reaktor, for both prototyping their other products and to develop Reaktor-based products (for which this sale is probably an incentive). At this point, it is an extremely mature product that simply doesn't need a new X.0 version every year; it really only needs to be upgraded to keep up with OS, hardware, and protocol changes. There really aren't a ton of features to add at this point.

Reaktor IS NOT going anywhere.

Oh if you'd only see the feature request list on their beta tracker... :D

There are two very BIG features that need introduction, but they must change the whole underpinning code: multicore processing capability, and SSE support. Both mammoth tasks, and both would bring quite big CPU load reductions. Reaktor 6 won't come out until they do those, that is what I suspect.

Yep, and there are MANY usability features that I would like to see in the next Reaktor. First, I'd like to see a gen~ or Synthmaker style code box for core cell programming and I'd also like to see max style abstractions. I have a nice hybrid moog/arp style sequencer that I built up in Reaktor but to make changes means either duplicating those changes across sixteen stages or changing one stage and then a tedious copy/paste/rewire session.

I have Kore and it works fine for me on Win7 64 bit. I think it's unfair to say NI shelved Kore quickly. They upgraded to 64 bit. The software will probably last forever, and I expect the Hardware to also last for a long time.

Fair enough if they wanted to focus on Maschine.

Really considered what to do and finally bought it. I have to say, I'm quite impressed so far!!

Some people are going to be pouring the ointment of rationalization on their non-buyer's remorse shortly... :D

Otherwise, buying it separately and the invidual modules to make it complete still is not that great of a deal. True, it's better than what they usually offer for their invidual prices, but when you get down to it, they're just causing a rash of impulse buys and making a better profit by doing it. All with the hopes that we will eventually buy more or all of their products. Kind of like they used to tell us how drug dealers will get a person hooked. Now rub your ears desparately and repeat, "But I need it, I need them, I need more sounds...

You just froze my mouse click on the "BUY REAKTOR 5" button.:phew:

Thats not completely true though. If you dont own one of the other expensive NI products then you get upgrade pricing on komplete instead of just regular pricing. So if you catch NI during a sale on upgrades to komplete then you've only spent 100$ to get to that price point

If I don't own any NI stuff, Reaktor 5 is just 99 dollars right now? Do I get all the DSP modules included, and it's just projects separate?

Post

You get the whole Reaktor 5 package with the whole factory library and open world to user library as well. You don't get the Reaktor Player synths, that's all.
