Just a reminder that this is working on all systems now except for Vista and XP where there is a problem updating to the latest version (which this needs). Looks like Arturia are planning to rectify that though.

Well a couple weeks ago I got that great deal at JRR shop and picked up the Oberheim Sem + Spark VDM for 100 bucks. I am running Win 7 home Premium 64 bit
and the latest 64 bit Cubase 7 Artist.(still have Cubase 5 32 bit). I can import banks(.obsx) using Sem in standalone, and with both versions of Cubase but I don't see anywhere you can import individual presets(.obsp).
I posted this on the Arturia forum and sent a support ticket as well. No response so far. I will say that I played around with an earlier version but then found the 1.1.6 update so I did that and still can't see anywhere on the GUI for importing presets just see where you can export them.
Your bank of 64 presets should work I guess, I'll listen to the demos, cheap enough too, although I bought this synth as I feel it is pretty straightforward and easy to create my own sounds. As far as what you get stock is a mixed bag of awful to wonderful sounds. Sure it can get that Vintage 80's vibe but I think you can coax out some other type of sounds as well. I don't know why I am not having CPU issues like other's claim and I am just have an i3 processor. DCAM synth squad is another matter, with only Strobe more gentile. Sem can sound really good at times and I will use it. Good luck with your bank, like I said I'll check out your sounds.

You can't. I know it's dumb, I have brought it up myself and also got no answer. They let you export individual presets but there is no import for them , only for banks. I suppose you could try putting them in the presets folder manually - that won't work with other Arturia synths because they also have a dumb file system that doesn't show individual presets on the hard drive but at least with the SEM they improved on that and it does.whitecloud wrote:I can import banks(.obsx) using Sem in standalone, and with both versions of Cubase but I don't see anywhere you can import individual presets(.obsp).
My bank has about a third fx as I like fx and when I started out my aim was to create an entirely fx oriented bank to explore its proggy side and the 8 voice programmer in particular, but then someone asked for some basses so just to give it a try and see what I could do I found you can create really nice (although non traditional) basses (also using the programmer to modulate them for interesting movement) and then ended up creating a few brass and lead sounds too. So now it's more of a mixed bag but still with more fx as a single category.

Well that sucks. How did you create a bank then as you had to program individual presets to start with? I looked all over the most likely places for the SEM sounds etc. and didn't find any preset or bank folder. I created one in my Documents and put some KVR banks and presets in there. Of course only the banks were visible etc. Don't let the lack of interest on this thread get you down. I just listened to you sound demos of SEM and they are very good and usable as well as interesting. I will definitely pick up the bank. Good work.aMUSEd wrote:You can't. I might mention the 5 Oberheim Tutorials by Franco de Muerta on YT very useful and inspiring.

You can create a new bank using the save as dialogue which allows you to define bank, type and patch name. It's just there is no specific export for individual presets but bank export is fine.whitecloud wrote:How did you create a bank then as you had to program individual presets to start with?

Any news on this ?aMUSEd wrote:Hi DavidDavid@Arturia wrote:There was a misreading regarding OB 1.1.6 and Wurlitzer 1.0.5, This product does not support win XP, win Vista et 10.5.
So if you are running these OS, please use the versions below:
Ob SEM V:
==> http://www.arturia.com/downloads/obsemv ... _1.1.5.dmg
==> http://www.arturia.com/downloads/obsemv ... _1_1_3.exe
sorry but that's not very helpful as it basically means that no-one running these systems can now open my patches because of the preset incompatibility you introduced by releasing 2 different versions of the SEM (1.1.5 for Mac and 1.1.3 for Win). That in itself was stupid, but then to decide you are going to make all versions compatible again but in the same release also change the system requirements is even more stupid. Basic rule of thumb here - don't do bugfixes at the same time as changing the system requirements because it means some of the people that would benefit from the bugfixes cannot access them. I would have thought that was common sense.
This is incredibly frustrating I cant even buy your soundbank Stephen as I'm on Win XP !!!!!
1/ Could we at least assume that presets created with version 1.0 will load on the last versions in XP, and/or *the other last versions* in Win 7/8 and 10.5 ?
2/ I made quite a lot of presets after the ones that are in the factory library, and I certainly not wish to loose them so i'm really hesitating to update to whatever version. ( still on 1.0 at this time ) Eventually 1.1.3 seems to be the last one I can install. Can someone confirm this ?

Just got this from "support":
So obviously pretty useless really. Anyone who needs a copy of the update you need to contact someone who has it installed on later versions of Windows and get them to send you the dlls. Clearly they have officially sanctioned this so it looks like the only method.The fix on windows are performance issues, and mostly concern Mac OSX 1.1.4 beta testers, and 1.1.5 owners
I understand that this drop of version is not what people would prefer, but the 1.1.3 is stable on Win, and the 1.1.7 is now much better as we reduced the amount of patching code trying to content everyone when old OSs like Vista, XP and 10.5 are not even maintained by their creators.
IF your customers really want to use your presets on their platform, you can use the installer of the 1.1.7 and send them the .exe and .vst .vst3 on XP.
This should work, but nothing is sure as we did not test those platforms.
Once they have those DLLs they will have the 1.1.7 and will be able to use your presets.
the last solution is obviously to redo your presets on 1.1.3.

This just in my inbox from Arturia another interesting approach but I guess we can say my cold case has been answered by them finally.
"Hi
I'm cleaning old cases, and realized that you did not get any answer, IF you still have an issue, feel free to contact us.
The export format is obsx, not obsp.
If you want to add obsp files directly you have to go with your win explorer in c:\program data\arturia\oberheim sem v\preset library\user\<bankname>
Again, I m really sorry you did not get an answer soonner.
PS, there is updates for this product on arturia.com/updates
Best"
My experience with Arturia support has not been such a nightmare as other's have shared. Sure sometimes it takes a while and sometimes they don't answer the question right as for some reason it appears they misunderstand the ?
I almost find it humorous. I am not "stuck in the mud" as I see on another thread, but I have SEM V and Spark VDM and really no major complaints so far.
Side note. Would any of your XILS 3 sounds import using XILS 3 Le?

Not sure - the simpler ones possibly but I can't guarantee they would all sound the same.
