Sorry guys but I have to ask. Bought Nave the other day and it is so cool that I wonder if I am missing anything that should make me go for WaveGenerator or WaveMapper also. So pro-cons and all the usual stuff.
Anybody around who owns all of them?

Me. Only played with nave for about an hour. Fiddled with the presets really.
First impression was that it wasn't as good as Wolfgang Palms apps. Phenomenal sounds from wavemapper/wavegenerator.
Mr Palm is a demented genius methinks.

I also own all 3. Not sure but I found Nave more approachable than WaveGenerator. WaveMapper is a weird one - still having fun with it but its odd to move the icons around and take on aspects of whatever you're on top of. I find it fun but really can't predict what things will do.
Nave on the other hand, does more or less what I expect it to when navigating the interface and since I prefer on-screen keyboards (really what is the point of hooking lots of peripherals to an iPad???), I prefer Nave overall. The PPG keyboard leaves much to be desired.
Just my 2 cents. With all that said, at the prices, no regrets on having all of them to play with. Now to figure out Thor!

Have all 3 . Never use WaveGenerator- hate the interface, never really found any sounds I enjoyed. WaveMapper has the same crappy interface for the most part, but at least I have come up with some patches that I like.
Nave is superior in every way, and if it had come out before the other too, and wouldn't have bought them.

So you do not think that the fact that they are all wavetable synths that are meant to be further developements of the PPG concept makes them related in any possible ways? Not even WaveGenerator and WaveMapper?EvilDragon wrote:Apples vs oranges vs pears.

I'm interested in this topic.. I've got NAVE already and am so happy about it but now I'm nearly about to get Wavegenerator...it has some features NAVE can't do (and vice versa tho). Watching tutorial videos from Palm himself, creation of a wave table with the Wavegenarator seems much intuitive; on the Nave getting desired result efficiently takes much planning and operation skills.

WaveGenerator was a leage of its own when it was released. But the interface is quirky and annyoing. There are some awesome sounds but only few presets. With a wavetable synth, presets are quite important I think.
The Palm apps feel incomplete and there were no real updates over time, it's like there's no more effort put in them.
I don't know where Nave and Thor goes, but those are quite complete and powerful out of the box, and they they are in the same league, sound wise. Sunriser, Animoog and the Korg apps really improved over time, I trust those apps to stay cutting edge. My favourite app right now for raw sound quality is Thor. But it's really a matter of taste, they are all great.

Wavetable synthesis is the only thing that connects them. Apart from that they have different usages.IncarnateX wrote:So you do not think that the fact that they are all wavetable synths that are meant to be further developements of the PPG concept makes them related in any possible ways? Well I've bought Wavegenerator at last. Mainly because I was actually quite impressed by the sound of presets (of the free version), partly to show appreciation and respect to Mr. Palm and his enthusiasm to technology (He's now 63? and he's the one who wrote this right?)
I think soundwise Wavegenerator is as great as Nave. Being able to define an arbitrary path on the wavetable can't be done in Nave. I prefer preset list of WG (Nave needs to add next-prev button and sort by category).
The biggest problem of WG so far is UI response! It's so unresponsive to finger touch and it really reminds me of unresponsive iphone slider/buttons of a couple of years ago. It's so hard to edit path on the wavetable and there's no undo. Setting up EG is also hard. I think new feature update (like more advanced keyboard controller) can be suspended but UI fine tune is really needed or people are so frustrated to tweak parametors. Basically all buttons etc are a bit too small for finger and really uncomfortable to use.
But man, WG sounds fantastic to me. Tho I may be so frustrated if I'd got Wavegenerator before Nave for adove reasons (and without Palm's tutorial video it'd be hard to grasp how to use it!) so I kinda feel fortunate to get Nave first

I have a question about loading DIY waves.
I've read that Nave doesn't like single-cycle waveforms - i'm wondering if WaveMapper does?
I have the Galbanum Architecture 2010 and the Adventure Kid collections that I would like to use in an iPad wavetable synth.

I finally got an iPad and spent time with both Wavemapper and Nave- before using them I would have said Wavemapper is more innovative - but after actually using them- It's obvious that Nave is ORDERS of magnitude better sounding and just a superior instrument- I was surprised at the difference in quality and depth-

I like WaveGenerator a lot. It has a character which is not in Nave I think. Presets aside I think WaveGenerator has more retro/vintage feel sort of. Nave is undoubtedly an amazing synth and its UI and functionality is much better than WaveGenerator tho. Still, WaveGenerator remains in my pickup list for the sound. I'm not thinking getting Wavemapper... I don't like the icon grid interface just by the look - even without actually using it myself - it looks like you're trying to find some good sound just by the luck or randomness.

I have both but don't use them live for different reasons.
Nave crash a lot but nice GUI and sounds really really good. But damn this app is buggy.
I am gonna wait for an update.
Wavegenerator : Unfortunately there is latency with this apps. I mean when using a midi controller you can feel the timing is sloppy (variable latency). If you just mess with the virtual keyboard you cant really feel it but who use the virtual keyb ?
I have tested it on an ipad 3 and a the new Retina mini with 2 different usb midi interface, same sloppy timing.
So wonderful apps but need some work imho.
