I think Arturias synths have their place. But on the other hand they arent very versatile. I have Analog Lab and Brass 2. Brass 2 is pretty cool actually and so is analog lab for the price i got analog lab at but brass 2 uses tons of cpu and is mad sluggish and freezes up my old computer. Dont know if it will freeze this one yet.

I'm surprised they give any additional licenses - essentially every time they do that they are placing themselves at risk that someone is using them to license additional copies of their plugins. eLicenser soft licence is not like CR where you use the internet to authorise - with CR you can get additional licenses as long as the company is willing - with the soft elicense it's more like a virtualised dongle. To transfer it to another computer you are really supposed to put it on a Dongle to do that. Arturia allowing 5 is actually one of the most generous terms I've come across for the elicence.

I have the Cubase eLicenser and have moved from Cubase 5-7 without a hiccup(still have both DAWS). Enter Arturia. I bought the bundle from JRR Shop
Oberheim Sem V+ Spark VDM. No problem there as well eLicenser works rather well.
Sure serial# is best but I hate c/r.
I like both SEM and VDM and plan on getting much use out of those VI's.
Arturia has pretty much always got back to me regarding an issue. Sometimes quickly other times a week or so. So all in all if I find another product they have that I feel i would want or use. I'll continue doing business with them. I also have their MiniBrute and love it.
These guys aren't Crysonic and actually iTunes has pissed me off even more as I have "lost" songs I have bought I would have to pay to DL them again. This occurred with a hard drive crash but I had everything backed up on another 2nd hard drive. Strange thing is I have some of the songs still but for some reason
some are gone. I bought them all around the same time. OK rant over.
I realise many have hard horrible experiences with Arturia, I have not.
As far as eLicenser. pretty straight forward and all is done and authorized in minutes plus you can put the dongle on say your laptop w/o issues.

This should actually not be a warning about Arturia. This is more like a warning about software E-Licenser (using it without the dongle) in general.
Thread title should be changed perhaps?

This would easily annoy anyone, me at least. I had similar experience with Magix reverb, I bought it second hand at marketplace here, just before major system upgrade, soon enough I found out I run out of authorizations, which I didn't even knew there's a limit to. They gave me one another, together with a promise that "it's the last one". My system runs without changes since then, but I practically stopped using this verb, I still have it in the back of my head, "wanna switch system HD, the verb goes kaboom".ghettosynth wrote:This happened to me recently with live and I had to "beg" for new authorizations.

When dongles work like they should, I don't really mind them. I've never once had a problem with eLicencer - it's worked without a hitch, so I'm very happy with it.
iLok on the other hand... I've had enough trouble with that thing to not want to buy software that depend on it anymore. PACE is probably my least favorite company in the world after Monsanto. I wish developers would stop using them.

I was looking at Arturia's stuff recently, but the CP meant I wasn't going to spend any money on their products. I don't want/need a dongle and the software version of eLicenser sounds horrible with limited activations. This isn't helped by tales of poor/non-existent support at Arturia and problems when people have had legitimate reasons to need to reactivate. "Just use the dongle" to me means "just don't buy it". Plus I don't see the point of using CP that doesn't "require" a dongle only to make it next to useless so the software requires a dongle anyway.
I know from experience with IK that it doesn't take much for you to need another activation (in my case, remove a few duplicated USB devices or devices that I no longer use in the device manager). At least with IK all the content loads in the free player, so it's no big deal (if I run out of activations for the free player I can just create a new account for a new set of 5). Of course if the company goes tits up you're still screwed. That's why everything else I have ever bought has no CP beyond a serial, and chances are it's going to stay that way.
CP is an important criteria for me when purchasing software - I won't buy games from certain companies because of their CP policies either. I've no idea if CP prevents piracy, but it sure does prevent sales...

Well everyone is entitled to their own opinions but after years of Computer usage and buying a new one, I never had a virus or Hard Drive failure. Then bam it happened over a year or so span. 1 virus that required a clean install of the OS.sjm wrote:I was looking at Arturia's stuff recently, but the CP meant I wasn't going to spend any money on their products. 1 boot drive failure my second(D) crapped out as did my external hard drive.
These things do occur. My Toontracks, Isotope and Slate software has limited
authorizations and they have whittled down with the Boot drive re-format, bought a new computer same thing. My Steinberg eLicenser still held my Activation key on it and I had no problem Using it after re-installing Windows or upgrading to my new computer. Serial #'s as I previously stated is my favorite, followed by eLicenser. Hate C/R and avoid Pace/iLock like the plague. As far as Arturia's soft elicenser, one you acquire and install the USB dongle, you can drag and drop the soft license to the hardware dongle, no problem. In the end you may want to consider this. You really don't "own" the software. If there is software you really thing would benefit your Music tracking and Production and if there isn't too many horror stories getting it to work. Buy it. If you will only buy software with serial #'s, then that is quite limiting. I will buy something I feel I could really use and I shared my feelings on CP so the only one I will not use is iLock even while I gripe about the other's.

Yeah it's exactly this kind of nonsense attitude from developers that really irks me - it's exactly why I'm not willing to support a company that goes out of its way to stop me from using what I have bought. I say "bought" on purpose here; you might be happy with this kind of 5h1tty model, but I'm definitely not.whitecloud wrote:In the end you may want to consider this.
