Thor Record?

Is it true that in their effort to match the Reason version they have left out a "record" capability? In the iOS world that really is important and I cannot think of another mobile synth without it, inc. Crystal which also exchanges patches with the vey version.

Are you talking about Thor on iOS?

With the advent of audiobus it's really not that crucial any more and with inter app audio being baked into ios7 it will be less crucial as time goes on I think, why fill the ipad/iPhones memory with duplicated facilities?jc_vt wrote:Is it true that in their effort to match the Reason version they have left out a "record" capability? I don't think Audiobus/inte-app audio replaces copy/paste. If I got a bunch of ~1 min tracks I want to move into another app I'd rather use render audio and into Sonoma pasteboard instead of record each of those tracks and edit them. So both methods definitely have its uses.
Audioshare app can clean up files from the various audio pasteboards, but having iOS letting you do that system wide somewhere would be great..

Synth apps with a record function seem unnecessary IMO unless it's a multitrack. I think many of us who want to do serious recording already have multitrack apps with full editing functions, fx, punch-in, compression, EQ etc.
I would prefer dev's spend their efforts on the synth quality, and not worry about recording utilities as long as Audiobus is supported.

There are many things you can do to optimize your iPad2 experience. Use airplane mode, set Audiobus and apps to 512 frames, limit Thor's polyphony, to name a few.
Multitrack DAW by Harmonicdog is a very stable 24 track multitrack recorder with the basic needs like "per track compression & EQ" and one of the best DAW reverbs on iOS and it runs great on iPad2.

Well I've already tried almost those things. Reducing poli count actually does not stop crackling; on those already heavy patches on iPad2 seem they are already too heavy.martygras wrote:Not true Haj.haj wrote:I'd like to have own recorder even if it is only one track and simple. Another thing is I'm trying to record on to BeatMaker2 which is unfortunately a big app already. I can't record a complex patch (evolving deep patd with loooong reverb etc) of Nave to BM2 without crackling so I use the internal recorder but it has a bug that it'll freeze if you record more than 1 min or so... I set latency to 1024 frame BTW. And Thor is much heavier than Nave so far..
GrageBand seems lighter than BM2 so I can record without crack which otherwise with BM2 but it exports only m4a.
So, I was actually thinking about getting Multitrack DAW. Is it indeed very light?

Haj, Sorry to hear you're having those issues. There must be some more ways to optimize your processing power.
Yeah, I know how long reverbs can suck up ram. Multitrack DAW isn't as bad as some other apps though. Maybe try the pads dry, and add the reverb later at mixdown.

Adding delay/reverb later on the DAW is yeah right.. if you can get the same inspiration without those when recording..martygras wrote:Haj, Sorry to hear you're having those issues. There must be some more ways to optimize your processing power.

I'd get Cubasis when I got an iPad5 but until then I need to find other solution. I'm surprised by feedbacks of it. It surely heavy app, I wonder if people can record today's heavy synth without problems (with iPad3 or 4, I guess iPad2 is out of question here)
Multitrack DAW may be the one, only I kinda worry if it's getting CPU heavy features in the coming updates by demands (which is a good thing normaly tho) it may end up as another CPU heavy recorder...
