I want to know which vintage synth is your favorite pick. Mine is the Roland SH-101 because of it's design and it's great for bass sounds or bubbly analog effects.

I'm not a huge fan of vintage synths.
I had a Roland SH-2 for a while, it sounded nice enough but I used it as a CV keboard for my modular synth more than anything.
The Korg Mono/Poly is pretty cool. The Formanta Polivoks too. I always thought I'd love an OSCar but I've never seen one in person.
I prefer modern (analog or digital) synths mostly. Any synth I don't have to repair myself is my favorite.

Moog 55A (55 without the sequencer modules) is really amazing. The tuning problems in the oscillators are much less terrible than in the earlier ones but still bad, especially compared to today's hugely better oscillators like Synthesizers.com's. The technology was limited back then, so let's forgive that, it's a real piece (many pieces, that is) of art, THE "vintage synth" as far as I'm concerned.
I personally can't decide between second and third place, since first of all, one of them is a phenomenally great, amazing polyphonic synth with great features and sound, Yamaha CS-80. It's the loveliest polyphonic analog synth, to hell with any Moog or anything else. The catch is as usual, it's far from "stable", very tough to maintain and unreliable. The other one is MS-20, even though it's quite a "simple" little semi-modular synth, it is revolutionary, has excellent features and remarkably awesome sound, THE "psychedelic" electronic music sound, truly great instrument. Again, not the most "stable" synth, of course.
My favorite synth is none of those, I prefer my little modular synth setup, the features are just right for me (obviously, since I set it up) and the sound is perfect, I can't get any better. I only wish I had a polyphonic (4 voice, at least) synth at least nearly as great as CS-80. There's nothing nowadays (na, an Omega 8 doesn't count either). Anyway, if there was, I most probably wouldn't be able to afford it. Oh well, I'll live.

The DX7, which outlasted my Chroma Polaris (which still resides in my closet)

But, yes, SH-101 is at the top of my list as well.
Who is "I"? What is "I"? This has yet to be explained.

I'll have to check this out. Im fascinated in finding out what kind of synth Urs considers the top of the line. Think Ive been secretly curious about that for a while now.Urs wrote:Korg 800dv. Most beautiful sounding synth.

Korg Mono/Poly (the Korg version!). This was also the first hardware synth I owned so it has a special place for me. The emulations nails the character 100% plus adds loads of extra features. Beautiful sound.

Quite a rich tone. That suboscillator or whatever he's switching in is killer, too.
