maybe a simple switch for the colour cheme (dark/light) would cater for all tastes.
i guess depends on your DAW....mine is dark...so a white GUI just kills me

I can see why people might like original GUI with the dark background, but my feedback to Patrick was that there wasn't any contrast with the backgroud and the sliders/knobs. Maybe he'll offer both GUIs? I'm not sure, but I definitely prefer the lighter GUI.

That's much much better than the black GUI! I've been really cutting back on discretionary spending lately while I buy a house, but this one will end up in my plugin collection upon release!

Yep, we should definitely have a skin switch button. White, gray, red, blue! :)

I think the light version looks good, but too similar to Lush.

What I don't quite get is why TAL chose those very dark colors of the first skin in the first place. The hardware was not that dark, judging from Google image search. So I would try the first skin, leave the sliders and knobs very dark, but choose a lighter gray tone for the background, maybe like number 60 on this image:

But frankly, the original hardware was already a bit ugly, which probably is why Roland issued the red and blue versions. I would not even chose a gray skin, but opt for a blue default skin :) Red is a bit problematic in terms of contrast and strain on the eye, but blue is very good as a background. And the blue version would be somewhat unusual and refreshing on the vst market :)

TAL have to be careful emulating the GUI look and feel or they'll probably receive a nasty-gram from Roland.

Not the most attractive synth, but to those of us who love the SH-101 it's kind of iconic, or a classic. T-shirts are available on request ;)

Peace,
Andy.

OK, so make a green version, that should keep him safe from Roland lawyers :D

But frankly, it's a bit ridiculous anyway. TAL does a precise emulation of the Roland hardware, but what Roland lawyers care about is the skin? Seems beauty is not the only thing that is only skin-deep :D

+1 for selectable GUI skins. The first SH-101 I ever saw and played with wasa blue one, so the blue version has always been THE 101 colour for me. In the virtual synth museum in my mind a blue SH-101 perches above a JP-8000.
Nice!

Just give it the same colours as the real SH-101 had. I think that the drop shadow on the right side and bottom looks odd. It doesen't really match with the top and left side that are flat looking. The LED's should be sharp like real ones and not foggy looking. I hope this will be fixed.

I agree with Decagon here. The 'floating' control panel does seem a bit odd. Flatter is better.

Where's the hand grip??

Classic 80s clip, love it!

I used to own a 101. Other than it's ability to do excellent portamento bass lines, and the fact you could carry it, it was a POS. Really. As a synth it was horribly limited and a one trick pony. Still, the emulation looks like fun.

Looks and usability also depend on the size of the interface. What size will it be pixel x pixel? Maybe the dark version would be ok if the GUI is big enough...

JP6K emulates how JP-8000 looks spot on, yet Adam didn't receive any complaints from Roland.
