Your favorite Reaktor ensembles?

That's fantastic. I've never seen or have forgotten many of those ensembles, especially the sequenced beat machines.

Some of these aren't in the user library any more - anyone got RED 2 By John Nowak?

Something must have happened between John Nowak and NI, because I remember he head many ensembles in the Library, and currently they have all been removed. And, yes, I have Red 2

That guy! He did a lot of trolling on the forums and got banned once or twice, then he became more interested in Max/MSP. I thought he was a good builder and funny guy with a twisted sense of humor. RIP John Nowak's Reaktor phase.

I have his stuff saved, and while it's interesting, missing out on it is not the end of the world.

Its a HUGE resource for us and them.


I gotta mention MetaPhysical Funtion and Ezerbee here of course, and all their permutations.
That kind of stuff is what got me into using Reaktor in the first place.

Razor is also very nice, and fairly cheap.

But, #1 with a bullet for me is S-Layer.
I got a taste of it, got some ideas for it, tried em, and DAMN.
Def the best $/usefulness ratio of any Reaktor-ware Ive seen.
It will probably be used somewhere/somehow in every track I do now. Really.

And now Im suspecting that all of TT stuff is just as genius from the looks, but I have not tried much of it...

Oki Computer 2.1. You can get this thing to sound NASTY.
Razor is just downright nasty.
Subharmonic for eerie pads and washes.
Space Drone. More ambient soundscapes.
Wave Weaver. Particularly good when you automate the matrix.
Newscool. Drum thingie automated by the old "Game of Life" computer algorithms.

Wow~ Really? Of course NI allows people to delete their uploads. It's their copyrighted work. There seems to be a lot of bad assumptions being made about the work that's in the library. My guess is that's why many people don't actually share through the library. You do not have an implicit license to use anything you want any way you want just because it's in the library, in fact, neither does NI. It's interesting because it's been around for a long time and somewhat overlaps the "copyright insensitive" period and the copyright sensitive period of the last two decades.

I really like the respect that the SynthMaker community demonstrates for authorship. The Reaktor community seems to think that somehow the user library belongs to NI, it does not. Uploading your works does NOT change your rights to your work. Reaktor is a dataflow programming language with a library that comes with a license. Works that you create with that language and (a runtime) library belong to you. The (runtime, not user) library belongs to NI. Your right to distribute your works is a function of your license with NI, but, NI's right to distribute your work is nada.

I see your point, Im just surprised that NI would not try to lock down that archive.

So are there actually ensembles uploaded to the user library that restrict use by users?
I suppose that is possible, but I admit that I definitely assume the opposite when downloading something from the UL.

I hear you. There are a lot of things that used to be in the UL that aren't now that if you don't have backed up, you just can't get. It's irritating that NI doesn't allow bulk download of the library as well. You have to go hunt and fish. I think that they are trying to balance making it useful to users, themselves, and staying on the right side of copyright.

I think that it they stipulated stringent license requirements that it probably wouldn't be as big as it is today.

IIRC, yes, off of the top of my head I can't think of which ones. Interestingly I saw a max patch the other day with a GPL3 license. I think that submitters would be wise to include a license with their creations. This would reduce ambiguity as to what others can do with the work.

Sure, so do I, but then, I don't distribute my creations, well, I've distributed a few tiny creations. So, I can do whatever I want in the privacy of my own home. In fact, I tend to think of NI reaktor products as sources for useful modules. It's a bit annoying that they locked down the filter macro in Monark. I hope that it was just so that they could refine the modules for Reaktor 6, we'll see.

My favourite ensemble is Sum Synth. It's basically an additive synth - but an additive synth that I've never encountered before. Rich, harmonic sounds with a taste of rubber and plastic Truly wonderful.
