Oh that's a bit crap - they need to make it more efficient there. Pity most Thor banks seem to be refills. I didn't realise there were unpackers.chris1a wrote:It will open *.thor preset files, not refills. So if you own a copy of Reason you can get to the Thor presets in there and save them one by one, or use some kind of refill unpacker to make the process faster. Some companies sells Thor preset packs in *.thor format if remember correctly.
Anyway I imported around 1500 extra presets into this thing, but since it lacks any kind of folder/bank/preset manager/structure it all just ends up as one reeeaally long list of presets. Plus it makes the app way slower when opening the preset menu and so on..

Thor for iPad is really cool.
Kudos for the smooth import/export of .thor patches, that approach should be implemented for Figure as well (i.e. PH should develop a dedicated "Figure device" for the Reason rack, a device that could import the Figure stuff we make on the bus).
I also liked the marketing video this time, it felt authentic and down to earth. Most of the other PH promo videos are filled with empty slogans and marketing hype, but this video was really respectful towards potential users. Let's hope they decide to keep this balanced approach for their next marketing videos.

Has anyone worked out if you can midi learn in Thor?
So far the only way I can see to use cc's, is to use breath etc in the mod matrix.
Is there any way to just assign an active cc to a knob... Am I missing something?

I can't really find any obvious way to have it learn cc's either. But maybe there's something in Thor iPad manual: http://www.propellerheads.se/products/thor/manual/Phader wrote:Has anyone worked out if you can midi learn in Thor?

Well I'm not seeing it. May have to use Midi Monitor to see if Thor passes the cc out.
I am also totally confused about the modulation routing format. It seems backwards to me. I really am just trying to assign aftertouch to something in either the amp ADSR or the filter to use with the EWI, but am having limited success.
For me, the best way to learn is to study patches I like and reverse engineer a patch to sound the way I want. At least until I get the hang of how it works.

Right now I'm experiencing midi timing issues between Thor and Beatmaker 2.
I'm at 120 bpm in BM and in Thor, and I'm sequencing a simple 2x4 bar track with a rythmic patch from Thor, and it's about 2 bpm off.
Anyone else had this?

Like constant 2 bpm off or more like Thor is glitchin out/missing a note or two on faster things? I'm trying to use Thesys and Thor and I can just forget about doing any faster "passages" in Thesys as Thor won't be able to keep up. Dunno if it's specifically Thor or just the usual bad iOS MIDI system tho..BMoore wrote:Right now I'm experiencing midi timing issues between Thor and Beatmaker 2.

Could you perhaps clarify a bit more, function wise? I think that the MBRS is very logical and translates well from a modular perspective so I'm interested in hearing what you're having trouble with. :)martygras wrote:I am also totally confused about the modulation routing format. I.e. if you would like to control Filt1Freq from LFO2 with Aftertouch you need to use the Scale. Example:
Source - Amt - Destination - Amt - Scale
LFO2 -> 100 -> Filt1Freq -> 100 -> Aftertouch
Or you could just use Aftertouch to control i.e. the AmpGain or the Filter1Freq:
Source - Amt - Destination
Aftert -> 100 -> Filt1Freq
Also, remember that Thor only responds to channel pressure/aftertouch and not polyphonic pressure/aftertouch.

Okay eXode, thanks, that helps a lot. I was thinking in reverse.
Like, start with aftertouch > value > amp decay level > value > scale.
That did help me wrap my head around it. I'm used to very simple cc "learning" and also the old style ADSR filters and amps.
I've also received some advice to use "breath" (cc2) instead of aftertouch when using the EWI.
Thanks again.
