Hi,
I'm working on a physical modeling guitar/bass VSTi which I tentatively call Stryngth. Probably it will be the name of the engine and individual plugins will be called different names. I'm hoping to release an open beta in a few weeks. Here's a teaser:
https://soundcloud.com/stryngth/sets/early-demos
All bass and guitar sounds are from Stryngth. Please note that amp and guitar effects are not part of the package. I used Amplitube here but any guitar/bass amp sim should do. The VSTi itself sounds like a DIed guitar/bass. I'm also working on an acoustic version.
Please share your comments so I can improve it before the beta.

To me palm muting in the thrash demo sounds much better than what IronAxe is doing at the moment. Well done and count me in for testing!

First of all, there is a mode where you can edit monophonic strings individually. In this mode every MIDI channel corresponds to a single string. Bends and legato are done in the usual way and there are CCs for muting and some other stuff. I've made all the demos using this mode.bharris22 wrote:How easy is it to use articulations (bends, slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, etc.)?
I'm still working on the other performance modes. In one mode, bends are done with upward pitch wheel movement, slides with downward pitch wheel movement (slide down, you can preposition the wheel and release it for slide up), for hammer on/pull off you depress the sustain pedal and play it legato (i.e. you overlap two notes). To me it comes pretty easy. I'm still fiddling with the idea of tying palm muting and left hand muting to foot switches, key switches, expression pedal or velocity. Probably there will be options for it but none of the options feel natural for now.
There is also a mode where you play a chord with your left hand and strum it with your right hand. There are right hand keys for different strum styles: down, up, muted, only higher strings etc. It feels natural to me as a guitarist but I don't know how a keyboard player's going to feel about it.
None of the performance modes are fully complete yet and the GUI is very basic (and will stay like that until the final stages). The beta will be out when I iron out the wrinkles in the performance modes.
Thanks for your interest!

Having as many different options for articulating various techniques available and configurability of all those settings will make it or break it, I'd say.

I'll do my best and I'm very open to suggestions.EvilDragon wrote:Having as many different options for articulating various techniques available and configurability of all those settings will make it or break it, I'd say.

Well then, whenever the beta is out, I'll make sure to provide as much feedback as I can.

Sounds great already! An acoustic version would also be extremely interesting.

lets say I am a guitarist so why would I want to buy such a product?
Are keyboardists so incapable of learning the guitar that they need to use something like this.
I personally shred on guitar and find it easier to play guitar than keys so I think if a keyboardist can't handle the guitar they must really be crap as a musician especially if they can't figure out how to play the guitar well enough to pull this kind of thing off.
Now if your a beginner on guitar but okay on keys then yeah this is a coo ting but is the market for that big enough to develop this?

Oh, the air must get thin up there, huh? Well, since you're such a shredder, post up a video of you playing these demos on guitar, and we'll all bow our heads in heartfelt admiration.yessongs wrote:lets say I am a guitarist so why would I want to buy such a product?

Here's some thoughts: maybe not all people are guitarists? Maybe some people would like to quickly incorporate some guitar into their tracks but can't be bothered to hire a guitarist? Maybe some would like to go all Malmsteeny on their track but lack the technical prowess to do so? And then, maybe some keyboarders get a huge kick out of stealing the limelight from their guitarists?
Anyways, great demos, looking forward to this as I've never been 100% happy with the AAS guitar offerings.

Why "VSTi" and not "VI"? Is Stryngth only going to be VST format = Windows?

If it were easy, anybody could do it!
